Wow this is surprising, and convicting. A very powerful concept. I am so curious about some of the characteristics of this, and if there is certain symbolism. I am not really asking you to explain, it is just part of my reaction.

What is really pulling at me is the title. Preoccupation--the business of it, and pursuit of it--is such a significant part of some peoples lives it is like a religion. This is just as I see it.

I like the more obvious thoughtful turn of your more recent works. It seems that you've added a level of meaning which wasn't there before. Not to say that there wasn't a great deal of thought behind your works from 2-3 years ago when I started watching you, but I feel that the questions you've been asking lately have been more direct, though many of your characters actually look at us even less. Interesting. And you've caught me in something of an idle, pensive mood.

I have a question for you, and I hope you get a chance to answer it: Many of the objects that you've shown here are indeed preoccupations, and a few are full-fledged occupations--the laptop is how I'm making a living right now. But the connotation of the word 'preoccupation' is generally negative--that we're paying attention to something we shouldn't at the expense of something we should. (such as an art website vs. work ) If what you mean to say is that we spend too much of these crazy days on things which aren't important, where do think the time should be spent instead? It seems that what's after we take away the jobs, as well as the hobbies you've shown, there isn't a lot of life left. There are other people, it's true, and time to be spent in quiet reflection, but what is there to reflect on but the things you call preoccupations? What value is there in interacting with people who have no interests, no hobbies?

I've found in the last few years that I love stress. I love keeping a tenuous grasp on a job, my guitar, my art, my friends, on the rocks I like to climb.... you get the point. Make my life "simple," and I'd be miserable.

That said, a certain degree of balance is essential.

great! the red circules create a repetitive pattern, and so simetricly balanced, that is atractive for the eye.
is this painting gonna be exhibited in any art gallery? it should!!
let me know

the hoods, or what have you, give them each their own little space, and though they are all the same, they seperate each person, and their activity. activity.
