FD Link slices the moon in half or something in Hyrule Warriors if I remember right. So maybe he is powerful enough : o (then again HW isn't canon, but ya never know! )

Speaking of improvement over the 6 years I've been around, though... my old art almost looks as if someone else made it. Crazy what practice can do to a person.

I never did get to play Hyrule Warriors... at least not yet! It makes me question the legitimacy of me as a Zelda fan, but to be fair I didn't own a Wii U, and I couldn't afford much a few years back...

Should have taken a knife and hacked at grass for a while, but all I found were disembodied hearts and rupees of only up to 5 rupee value, plus there is no currency exchange from rupees to the NZ dollar.

But with that extra heart I became a Timelord and flew off to Gallifrey okay I'm lying I couldn't afford to go to Gallifrey either.

I know! That is why I continuously try to convince people that they CAN get better - I mean, I have one who completely looks up to me and really seems to idolise my abilities, and he kept saying he will never be as good as me - I mean seriously, my level of art was once worse than his and I remember BEING the type of artist who idolised other artists, thinking I would never get as good as them, now I am that artist to someone else! It's bizarre, seriously. xD

And it's not easy trying to convince him, I threw a bunch of my old, horrible art his way, and was all like "HEY LOOK THIS WAS ME" and telling him that it is VERY possible that he will get as good as me someday, and that he could even potentially surpass me - I have surpassed some of my idols, and I have seen other artists surpass me - kinda bad for the old confidence, but it just means I have to keep pushing... xD

I can do a comparison with the Moons, actually...

...I may have turned the giants of Termina into ponies, but oh well... xD

But yeah, I look back at my old art and it feels like someone else did them... even if I know I did them, and I wonder how I managed to get better than I thought I ever could... xD

dw tbh Hyrule Warriors is kinda disappointing, it's just the same thing over and over again - beat up stuff, go on to beat the next batch of dudes, cycle repeats. (and yes i am a Zelda fan +o+ and now I shall proceed to kill you and absorb your punny powers MUHAHAHAHA)

yah the art cycle is so weird, but it happens to everyone if they put enough effort into their art I guess. It's more a matter of self-esteem, there's always gonna be that point you have a feeling you can't reach (even though it's basically the end goal) but when you get to a different place, you'll be content with where you are. It's not knowing that there are alternative paths you'll be happy to take that really does a number on the self esteem, which is wear getting out of your comfort zone comes in. It really just takes time to get out of that tunnel vision phase, for some people it's longer than others and vice versa. In addition, attitude towards one's own art varies too, so that's a factor to consider. The dude who idolises you probably needs to start seeing the beauty in their own art - something that's hard to do, but is really rewarding in the end.
Hey, if someone surpasses you, just eliminate the competition and assert your dominance keep working at it and surpass them - you'll probably do it without knowing, in fact. If their art style is different tho, that's a whole 'nother ball game.

Btw your old Termina moon drawing was good to begin with, but the new one is just even better! Lighting is so much more dramatic  
What's super weird about old art tho is that (at least in my case) when I was younger doing all the yucky art, I never thought I'd end up where I am today I can draw hot bois and do anatomy somewhat convincingly . I thought my art would end up looking like those from the people I admired, but now it's basically a mixture of everything I've encountered so far. Plus, tastes change over time, too.

That story tho is mint, with the car being called fat head and turns out she was actually pregnant xD

That's the thing too, alternate paths are one other thing, and there is also the order of what parts of your art you improve on, too! The guy I was talking about? He may still have some ways to go in some areas, but by comparison he is actually improved and getting pretty good at body proportions - I literally told him I was jealous because he was improving on something that took me longer to improve upon. I think that took him by surprise.

But that is another thing, too... everyone's style is (or should be) different, so you can't make an EXACT comparison... like, one artist admires my art, but I admire his right back - he once said my art was better, but it's not, it's just different.

It's like comparing chocolate pudding and apple pie - sure, they are both aesthetically different, but both are desserts, and both are delicious!

The real thing to do is experiment. Like... with a bunch of art I admire, I look at aspects of what they have done to their art (like lighting, for example, and how it shimmers or glows), and even if I don't know their exact methods, I begin to wonder what I can do, and what tools I know of to replicate that same effect - and that is how I test things, and usually my abilities take a bit of a jump when they work!

I've pushed my comfort zone in a bunch of areas... I think my biggest push through out of my biggest comfort was by testing NSFW stuff - not nude art, though that was something I pushed through (and I don't really personally count it as NSFW), but the one envelope especially is sexual art. I can do it, I've tried it and I know I can, but it is just something I can't comfortably do seriously. The only reason I seriously considered it in the first place was because some other artists told me it would help bring Patreon support (it's the whole sex sells thing), but it then ended up giving me some kind of panic attack because I don't really want to do art like that on a serious level, plus when I do nude art, it's supposed to show a positive and natural side to it without it being sexualised, and doing sexual art would just completely destroy the credibility of that portrayal, y'know..? ._.

That is actually the reason why recently I've tried to do more fanart. Original art and comics is great and all, but people look for fan work of games and such.

That is also the reason why I joined Heroes of Dragonstone. Well, one of the reasons. Access to another community who may appreciate my art. That said, that gate goes both ways! (The other reasons I joined was a) it means I HAVE to do an art piece outside of my own stuff, and b) Ry asked me if I wanted to join when I asked him about it, and he's a pretty awesome guy, and a nice guy, too! So I really wanted to support his group as well!

There are a lot of artists out there who delete their old art because it looks really bad, but I personally believe you should keep your god-awful earlier pieces of work, because it not only shows how far you've come as an artist, but it also shows just what you are capable of in terms of improvement, and proving you can improve, rather than staying static!

And I know!! When I first came onto DA, there was this artist I looked up to - her art was SO AMAZING in my eyes, and while I dreamed of being as good as her, I knew it was outside my artistic limits and that I would never, ever be as good as her. But I surpassed her, which honestly really surprised me - it also taught me that you can never, ever know your limits!

And that is true - and it's the best thing to happen, too! Your personal experiences and encounters make you who you are as a unique person, and the same goes for your art - and then you end up developing your own style from it! I mean, who really wants to have the same style as everyone else? xD

...also, with my art, in uni, one of my pieces was on the wall in one of the corridors. So many people knew it was mine before they read the name on the piece, apparently my art style is it's own signature...

Though when I was at that age, I just through cats just got pregnant randomly, hence why I said "one day I found out I was pregnant". Because cats just spontaneously end up pregnant, just like that.

I named myself Fat Head because I thought it was hilarious. Just like how I eat books, and the notion of a cat having a cuppa tea. xD

That comparison is right on point lol!
Experimenting really does go a long way, mainly because it opens up pathways to achieve certain effects in an artwork. Also I understand that NSFW art struggle (personally I'm not too fond of that stuff either and have never tried it). It has a conflicting nature within itself i hope my grammar worked there LOL

The Dragonstone gate certainly does go both ways +o+ I've already met a lot of great artists, you being one of them! I actually just joined to have fun, and to blow the cobwebs off my roleplaying... as well as design an OC, which I've never done before the last 2 years tbh. I don't even mind if my jokes are absolutely terrible, just as long as peoples are all having a good time xD

LOL looks like we're in the same boat with being inspired by video game characters! I was inspired to add a seagull who I'd previously designed, partially by Link and also Ryudo from Grandia 2. In fact, my OC's costume design was heavily influenced by Ryudo's because I liked it that much lol.

I think my problem might not be with NSFW itself, but rather what it means... if that makes sense. I mean, if I were to start seriously pumping out pure NSFW for the sake of monetary gain and such, it's lost it's meaning personally for me already. But... see, I can really appreciate sexual art, but usually because of what it says beyond just... well, getting it on... like, for me, sex is a form of affection you share with someone you have a bond with, so that is one thing right there. Or something with a story behind it... I mean, if you look at some of my art, it's more than just a character, what the character/s is/are doing and where they are creates more than just a pretty picture... like, in that pic where I drew myself as a Rito, for example. I'm not standing in Rito Village, I'm in the town square of Gerudo Town, trying to decide what type bow to get, or at least, just browsing the bows and arrows. She/I also am not wearing your traditional Rito garments (I guess about as nude as you can get for a Rito), but am also wearing a Sapphire Tiara, which protects you from the heat of the desert. I also have a carry bag there as well.

I mean, what could you potentially unpack from that image? It's not just a pic of me as a Rito, the whole picture tells more of a story, or at least you can interpret a story from it, you know?

I guess... well actually, one really good example is this.

I once talked to an online friend who was talking about a type of manga that was mostly all just sex. I hadn't read anything like it before, and she sent me ZIP files with the pages in it. I lost interest after the 4th page, read to about the 30th page (which was the last page in the ZIP file), and just didn't bother with the rest... thing is, it was just sex, sex, sex, and there was no real story or character development behind it, which was a HUGE deal-breaker for me.
A few years later I wondered if maybe there was more development in the later pages, and questioned myself for judging the story without reading the entire thing. So I went back and read the entire thing, and I learned that I was totally right.

The rest was all the same, and completely unbelievable. On top of that, the ending where the character grows to accept his life happily was just so weak and came out of nowhere with no elements to suggest he was growing into his new life and situation, it just made me hate it all the more... :/

Maybe that's why I had such an issue with the idea of doing NSFW for Patreon... because I can't for the life of me imagine doing anything like that without actually creating a full-blown in-depth story to go with it, and that was something I wouldn't have time for...

I dunno.

But again, doing that kind of art would likely destroy the more innocent intent of my nude art, so even if I could bring myself to do something like that, it would be a really, really bad idea. ._.

Ohh righto, now I know what you mean.
That ending is so weird, considering that there was little to no development in most things. Having a developed story makes things make actual sense, rather than just being pretty (or gross) pictures. And yeah, that kind of NSFW art would certainly tamper with the more innocent nature of nude art. It's like... staining something i guess.

That's almost the word - I think the word "tainted" when it comes to doing both nude art and NSFW art, or muddying it. I mean, obviously there is a clear difference, but people tend to lump one with the other, and if there is a sexual piece, then somehow, automatically, ANY piece that shows a bit of skin is automatically porn. ._.

I mean, some people will see nude art anyway and automatically label it as porn, because obviously they don't actually know what porn really is (get a dictionary, guys! Also you are on the internet, look up the definition!), and I've had it a few times where people just randomly ask me if I'm a pedo, I mean seriously, wtf? I honestly find it insulting enough as it is to be compared to something like that, and especially since one of my friends had a sister (who I also had befriended) who was the victim of a pedophile. IT MAKES ME SICK. Literally. I remember how I felt when I found out. I can't even describe the myriad of negative feelings that went through me all at the same time.

And I mean after that she wasn't even the same ever again.

I actually wonder how many artists out there, no matter their level of talent, feel that way? From what I have seen so far, both in my artistic journey, and from meeting and talking to artists who are "amazing" and whom others look up to, they are all pretty much the same as everyone else, and probably even have so much doubt and confidence issues it makes you wonder... xD

Holy crud, I'm so sorry you had to experience that, especially when you're close to a victim irl. It's not even right to ask that kind of question in the first place - no one's gonna straight up admit to being a pedo. 

Lol 90% of artists probably feel that they're always kinda noob, unless they either have super high self-confidence or have been labelled as a professional due to their job and are cool with being a pro.
Tbh I think Caley is ~14? The fairy... idk how fairy ages work, but maybe 5-8? idk xD

I prefer my artist steamed, and then oyster sauce added on afterwards with various other seasonings. I'm not creative enough, thats why i must absorb : DD
The scarf certainly does work well - without it, i don't think Caley would look as complete. 
Whoever doesn't love Isaac's battle theme has no taste >: (( the game has such high musical standards tho for the GBA lol

I wouldn't say I am close with her irl anymore... tbh I haven't talked to her in years - like I said, she wasn't the same again, it's like she became a completely different person and I couldn't even really relate to her anymore after that... which is even worse, because it shows how something like that can actually change someone... ._.

Well you just go with a similar aging system to humans, I suppose... at least in terms of comparison. And no, not 5-8, she isn't a kid. I would probably have her about the same age as Caley, I think. Easier way for them to relate to each other that way.

ouch, it really sucks how all it takes is just 1 thing (or a number of things combined to basically make that 1 thing) to completely flip someone's life upside down. If only things weren't like that, but that's only in a perfect world...

Yeah, I doubt the great masters felt that they hit a high point themselves and never needed improvement. It's mostly observers who end up thinking 'wow this can't get any better'.

Have you ever tasted oyster sauce before? It doesn't taste like oysters at all, thankfully xD (if you've ever eaten Chinese vegetables, it's most likely the brown sauce that comes with them if it isn't soy sauce)

I know... but it still eats at me that, even though feel sick to my stomach that that happened, people still throw the pedo thing around at me. I really do wish I was a kid again, things just seemed much simpler... ._.

I even can't handle it if someone I know calls me one as a joke. It's like... it's a thing you never joke about with me.

It seems to be even harder when you do nude art though - the whole reason I want to do nude art is because I want to portray the naked human body as something normal and/or natural, not some sexualised object. I myself actually like wearing nothing (even though I'd be too scared to actually go out and about like that), and honestly it's had some negative consequences.
Though, the other day someone sent me a message saying how much they appreciate that I'm trying to make nudity look more of a natural thing and trying to help in some way make nudity not all about sex...

But it has it's own set of consequences... ._.

I think sometimes it's not a case of getting better, just changing or being different.

I guess she does look younger, but maybe that is due to the way she is posed on Caley's head - she isn't sitting up, but leaning forward, and her arms are covering any breasts she might have, and I didn't draw any hints of breasts on her (I mean, she is just so small in the pic, the linework would probably disappear into it, hence why I didn't try), so that probably makes it look like she is younger..

I don't think so..? Oh... but I have had that brown sauce in the vegetables when having Chinese...

Oh, Venus Lighthouse theme was just so... it was so upbeat and positive!! But I enjoyed the design of Jupiter Lighthouse out of all of them.

We could both be Jupiter Adepts!! And I have blonde hair so I'd fit right in lol.

For me, water also comes close - if I weren't a Jupiter adept, I'd be a Mercury adept.

Funny thing, I found out my elements for my astrological sign is air and water (I was born on a cusp) xD

I'm not much of a fan of fire, myself. I mean in terms of elements, I do like fire when it's cold.

I should probably point out I'm a bit of a nerd... xD

True, and it also seems that they never even bothered to learn what the word "pornography" actually means, so they say that nude art is pornography, despite the definition of pornography explicitly describes sexual elements involved. I mean otherwise, if nudity counted as something sexual, then technically having a shower is sexual, going to the toilet is sexual, sleeping in bed (if you sleep nude) is sexual, and giving your kids a bath is counted as pedophilia... I mean you have to know the facts and definitions first before you throw things around as if you know them, and it really bothers me that people do that.

And the intentions behind MY nude art is to try to persuade people to view nudity in a non-sexual light - that is why I can't go down the erotic art side.
I'm not saying I have never tried it before, and I'm not saying I am incapable of doing it. But it's not really my thing, that is, not something I want to properly indulge in. And it would taint the whole point of my nude art.

It's like how people confuse nudity with porn... if there is porn, then it only serves to "prove them right", even if that doesn't make sense.

Well... I still have access to the server, I'm not usually much of a chatterbox in messenger programs and the like, especially when I have things to get done...

But yeah, despite not being a bad person myself, my art apparently gives the impression that I am some kind of creep, so I was asked to leave based on that.

Well either the blonde strands are signs of me coming through, or signs that you are about to transform into a super saiyan. xD

Actually, both he and Lush defended me, but ultimately I guess what can you really do? I mean I suppose if they kept me around, it could bring the whole reputation of the group down (stupid, I know), and if I am asked to leave, it seems to confirm that I'm some kind of creep.

There is no winning situation in this. And I've been in a similar situation where I had to break hearts because I had to choose between two people.. :/

It's not a fun situation to be in.
