I did all this artwork in a tool called PaintCode: www.paintcodeapp.com/
(It's Mac only)
The app draws using vectors and outputs PNG files AND/OR core graphics code. I made an app called "Free Light" above (itunes.apple.com/us/app/free-l… and 99% of the included art is all drawn in code, keeping the file size very small.
