both are cool.. but I preferred the second one (with orange) . My only problem is how to remove the glassy highlight on the control panel pane..

I don't think that it would be that bad (the glassy look). It makes it look different from the main pane.

I'd never created any VS, but I think if You asked a some experienced VS creator, He would solve your problem

Well, that green shape/pattern you have running down the side of the user accounts window, I think it would look cool if you had a similar thing on the start menu.
