Hey! How are y'all doing? Good? Well good for you! Not so good? Well, what’s your problem? Apologies for not noticing. But it’s alright, life can always be a pain but that’s what helps us get better.

Anyway, here’s another “What did I think of this?” post. It’s another Death Battle episode that happened not this season but moreso, not too long ago. Po from Dreamworks vs Iron fist from Marvel. To tell you the truth, this is actually one of my personal favorite Death Battle episodes of all time and I will explain why that is.

And yeah, I know it’s actually called Iron fist vs Po but that’s not really a big deal since switching them around makes it a lot easier to say plus, it’s still the name of the two characters fighting.

Starting with the analysis, I really don’t have that much to say other than I really enjoyed them. Note that this is someone who isn’t really that familiar or attached with Iron fist or Marvel in general. Despite that, I still enjoyed Iron fists’ analysis and found him pretty cool from his origin story to seeing the martial arts skills and abilities he learned, to a fair share of his impressive feats, to his journey of starting to want revenge for the guy who wronged him to actually be a hero and using his powers for justice. All really good stuff. As for Po’s analysis, I enjoyed it way more! They went through his origin really well along with his character and journey throughout the movies and the shows! It was also really fun seeing all the martial arts and abilities he learned along with his incredible feats. Some that really took me by surprise! It all just really made me happy throughout. Po being one of, if not my favorite fictional characters of all time, I was really happy to see him be put on Death Battle. Though I was a bit mixed seeing him be put up against a Marvel character by all people since there are other options that could work for him. But nowadays, I think it’s a nice choice considering who he’s up against.

But now, I want to talk about the fight and boy did I love it! Starting off, I really like the setting. It’s just so beautiful to look at and while I’m not that familiar with chinese culture or anything like that, still this has to be my favorite setting used in the show. And then we have our first interaction with Po and Iron fist which I also really love. Po being impressed by Iron fist skill and being blown away by him being the dragon warrior and then asking him for a sparring match is neat and is such a Po thing. The same can be said about Iron fist. I like how he interacts with Po, with him being friendly and acknowledging towards him as well as accepting a sparring match and showing him what Po’s got. Like I said in my thoughts on the Goku vs Superman episode. I love interactions where characters are friendly towards each other and admire each other's skill and just act like they are having fun throughout the fight even if it is to the death. It just makes me have that warm feeling you know? But now for real, the fight. I have heard complaints that despite being a sparring match, Iron fist is landing some pretty hard hits on Po and they’re actually able to damage him. Personally, I don’t mind it too much except that Po taking damage from Iron fist hits at the start maybe bothered me a bit but not too much. Especially when the music kicks in to amp up that bit making it actually more enjoyable for me. The track I will get to later. There’s also the part where Iron fist lands a hit that sends Po flying towards a wall only to bounce off it and strike Iron fist with his rear. I really like that part and it shows how Po’s rotund is used in combat. Though it felt like there was a lack of sound effect when Iron fist was hit by Po’s rear but still, it didn’t bother me that much. We get more well done animation with them clashing along with some nice hand drawn animation here and there. Another part I liked was when Po was launched in the air for Iron fist to land an attack only for Po to go focus mode and see Iron fist’s head as a dumping (I don’t know what it’s supposed to be. Like I said, not familiar with chinese culture)? But it got a chuckle out of me. Then there’s the part where Po uses chi to attack Iron fists and again, Iron fist is intrigued by it and then uses the exact same attack. Po is just so amazed by it that it just caused it to let his guard down and take the hit. Not that it did that much to him. Again, I love the way Po is portrayed here. It's such a charm! It then leads to Po bouncing down the stairs which I also enjoyed and got a chuckle out of me. And then leads to the bamboo fight which is just so amazing and fun to watch. I really like how Po then just eats Iron fists’ bamboo weapon only for him to take hits from Iron fists again but this he just laughs and says it tickles which is actually cute and funny. Even though earlier, Po was taking hits and it damaged him but, whatever. We then get Po using the environment to his advantage as uses the leaf on the bamboo to make Iron fists sneeze which allows Po to use the wushi finger hold on him and Iron fists just constantly removing his hand from Po and trying over and over again to use the hold is also charming and funny. Po finally succeeds and then we get the fight in the Spirit realm which looks amazing! Maybe not much compared to how it looked in the movies, but still it looks really good! From Iron fists being blinded by Po’s golden lotus clap but still able to keep fighting him, to Iron fists landing strong chi punch and sends Po flying far and fast to then crash into one of the islands, to Po and Iron fists’ amazing dragon transformations and the well done hand drawn clash between them, it’s all so good! This fight is just filled with great kung fu fighting with nice interactions, good comedy, and great animation and beautiful track to add up to it. And then we have the death. Po uses his focus to push through Iron fists’ power of chi and Iron fists trying to land another hit on Po but the power of Po’s dragon holding him back only to get vaporized by Po’s attack while landing a cool death scream. Again, it’s all so cool!

And then there’s the ending which is where others have also complained about. Po laughing and saying that fighting with a guy he just met only to then kill was so cool and then goes to tell Shifu about it. Yeah, I understand the complaints but still am not too bothered by the ending since I could see Po acting this way after he had what was probably one of the best fights he ever had. Sure it maybe would have benefited if Po instead bowed in respect or admired his opponent for trying his best and maybe felt sorry for killing him. That would’ve also worked and could be a better ending but still I’m fine with the ending as is. I also liked the post analysis. They did a good enough job explaining how Po, despite being slower and less experienced, still had the advantage with the way fights, his other techniques, and his superior power of chi. But they still acknowledge that Iron fists speed and better martial arts skills and his fair share of techniques would still give Po a hard time keeping up. Now I’m aware that some of the reactions to the conclusion are somewhat negative given it was a comic book character losing to an animated movie character. Look, I mainly watch most Death battles not for the debate but more so the entertainment and as a celebration to a character that’s put in this and I think they did that well with both. I don’t really give darn who should’ve won or lost. I just want to see an awesome fight with well done animation, interactions, combat, etc. I am not nor ever in the mood to deal with this type of thing. If you really disagree with the conclusion and you let that ruin the episode for you, fine. You do you but don’t go shoving that into anyone else because at the end of the day, vs debating is subjective! Maybe I would’ve been really sad to see Po die but that doesn't mean I should just dislike the episode in general or go on a rant about how Death Battle was wrong and they suck. There are cases where even if I disagree with the outcome, I still really enjoyed the episode regardless. With that out of the way, I’ll give my final thoughts.

This episode was amazing, it had a few minor issues here and there, but they didn’t stop me from enjoying it. As someone who loves the Kung Fu Panda movies with them even being my favorite movies of all time, this was without a doubt one of my favorite episodes of all time. With great analysis on the characters, to the fight as well as a great track. Dragons and Dumplings despite the strange name is still a beautiful track to listen to. Maybe not one I listen to on its own, I find it more fun to listen to while watching the fight, it’s still really good. And that’s all I have to say. This was a lot but come on, I love this Death Battle episode so of course I have a whole lot to say about it! At the end of the day, it’s just my personal opinion. What are your opinions on this episode? Did you enjoy it or not? And why? Remember to be nice and respectful towards yourself and others. Otherwise, get some help. Thanks for seeing all this I guess and have a nice day!
