This is something new from you. Very stylish. I should install the CAD. The only thing that stops me is what for is it?

Hahaha Thank you
CAD is an Album Art application for numerous media players.
Skinnable, it displays Cover Album Art, Ratings, Lyrics as well as Song Info on your desktop.
There are also fullscreen skins available which are quite special.
You can learn a little more about it here [link]
Great forum, friendly atmosphere and very valuable information.
This little jewel is a must

Ooh, no. I was just kidding. Sorry for this, Jazz.
I know what is CAD. But, I can't understand, what for I need CAD if I should open my player first. If the player is already opened what for I need an additional "parasite" application? Just for an additional album art and additional "play" and "stop" buttons? My player has album art and "stop" and "play" and even more buttons. Don't be offended, but I think it's useless.

I found it strange that you didn't know about CAD lol.
I have no reason to feel offended
I constantly ask myself the same question, trying to reduce the number of running applications on Windows.
But this one, is definitely not one of them.
I usually minimize my media player,
so this enables me to have quick controls without taking up all the space.
CAD can start at the same time as your media player if you set it so.
Besides, it looks asthetically pleasant on my desktop but also practical.
This app is simply great...

I usually minimize my player too. Foobar2000 may minimize in sys trey and it has a plugin by using of which you are able to manage the player with the buttons (not with the textual menu). Another player I'm using is AIMP which may became very attractive mini player when it's minimized. I uninstalled Winamp, cause it hardly handle the big playlists, takes a lot of time to load and became somehow bloated player (sure, just by my opinion). Another small and lite player is Xion which is highly skinnable (as CAD is) player and has HQ sound (uses BASS engine as the AIMP player).
There are a lot of very attractive and sometimes really "peace of art" skins for CAD (like your's), but do I need the application which is not "stand alone" application and do nothing without the "parent" application? That's the question.

Winamp does handle playlists like a dog, except for a handy little plugin, called Dynamic Library, with this baby installed you can load up 1000's of files including tag information in a matter of seconds... honestly all the other functionality of that plugin is the only thing keeping me with winamp... other than that FB2K FTW

No Alexander. You are right.
If you just want to listen to your music, you won't need it. You wouldn't need an IconDock, too. Because all shortcuts and information can be viewed and used elsewhere.
But a dock with icons looks nice. And you can have it always on your desktop. It won't disturb you in any way.
The same to CAD. It looks phantastic (skin dependant), gives you many controls for your media player (I use Foobar too, and it's quite big - at least with my setting), it's very skinnable (even for beginner) and offers features most media players don't have (fullscreen, cover search, lyrics download...).
I know Foobar can all this too, but you must admit, CAD's fullscreen feature is unique.
Finally it's all a matter of taste and how you prefer your everyday-desktop-experience.

Alexander-GG In reply to barberioX [2008-12-01 09:26:46 +0000 UTC]
Partially I do agree with you.
ObjectDock (or any other dock) is more functional and comfortable. You can hide it or you can unload it when unneeded and your desktop always stays "clean". You should agree, that you can not do the same thing with shortcuts.
Also, I do agree with you, that some CAD skins (like this [link] ) look really fantastic. Yes, it's easy to skin (as Xion player which uses PSD files) and it's all a matter of taste and how you prefer your everyday-desktop-experience.
We should agree on one thing - CAD is not an application. It's a plugin.

i'm pretty much enjoying your conversation here.
but may i just say that CAD is not a plugin. in fact it is an (frontend) application.

Well, Hi Otis. You are here too. I think, Valeria will be pretty angry for spamming her page.
I downloaded CAD today [beta 5 version] and I'm gonna test it these days. Do I need the foobar plugin for it or it's included in installation pack?
π: 0 β©: 1
OtisBee In reply to Alexander-GG [2008-12-07 09:02:32 +0000 UTC]
hi!
well, during the process of installation you'll be asked about your prefered player and if you'd select foobar the plugin should be installed accordingly.
but i thought you mentioned AIMP to be your player of choice.
π: 0 β©: 1
Alexander-GG In reply to OtisBee [2008-12-07 10:08:46 +0000 UTC]
I have both - AIMP2 and foobar2000. foobar2000 is default.

You can hide your shortcuts and you do (take a look at your startpanel for instance).
[Quote: CAD is not an application. It's a plugin.]
Errmm... I think it's a frontend.
But in the end it really doesn't matter.
I really don't want to convince you to use an aplication you don't need.
And I can understand you. But I don't want to miss it...

So, Alexander, did you finally give this app a try ?

I"m going to try it these days. Now I'm very busy at work, cause it's the end of the financial (and normal, ha-ha) year.
Sorry for spamming your page, Valeria.

jazzava In reply to Alexander-GG [2008-12-03 14:03:03 +0000 UTC]
No, no, I enjoyed reading that debate
I had never heard of AIMP before.
Might give it a try
I use Foobar myself so I completely understand that CAD, in this case, becomes somewhat "obsolete" since Foobar can do all of the above.
But Full Screen skins is a concept that is unique to CAD.
It's so very nicely coded that it's hard to resist.
All that said, Happy Holidays if I don't read you before Christmas

Alexander-GG In reply to jazzava [2008-12-03 17:34:44 +0000 UTC]
Ooh, I will not have the Holidays until December 30. The Christmas in Georgia is at January 7 (by Julius Caesar calendar). Do not forget, we belong to Orthodox Church.
Foobar is my default player too. But, you should try AIMP [link] . Unfortunately the site is only in Russian, but you may download it form "betanews" or "filehippo". But, skin editor and skins are available at the main site. I like it cause it uses BASS sound engine and has the 18 bands equalizer (presets included). So, sound is great.
