Description
With many thanks to Artifexian and his excellent tutorial series on climate: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lCbxM… ,
also inspired by Vorropohaia and his climate map of his world Elyden: www.deviantart.com/vorropohaia….
Check out his great project of mapmaking and worldbuilding called Atlas Elyden.

The planet Asumar is in many ways similar to Earth, but one big difference can be seen in the climate. The average temperature is around 5 degrees Celsius warmer due to the closer position ti it's two suns. But the planet also has a ring system like Saturn's. During some time in the year, large areas of land receive less sunlight due to the shading through the rings. This drastically lowers temperature around mid fall and mid spring to around 10 degrees lower than normal, giving way to higher temperatures again in winter. Because of this extreme seasonal pattern, plantlife has developed an interesting pattern in leaf growth. During the warm periods of the year, the plants grow green leaves. These leaves usually drop when the ring shadow stars. When the ring shadow disappears again in the winter, some plants grow smaller, thick, red leaves to absorb more sunlight. These leaves drop again when the shadow returns in spring, and green leaves grow in summer.
THE TEXT IN THE IMAGE IS COPIED BELOW
On Asumar, there are two phenomenon that determine what the weather is like: Climate and the Weather itself. Weather is of course the current condition of the atmosphere at a certain location. This is determined by the temperature, and the humidity. If it rains, but an hour later the sun comes through, we would talk about a change in weather. Climate however is the average of the weather over a long period of time, usually over 25 years. By observing the average temperature and humidity in an area over these large time spans, changes in the average climate can be observed. This has been studied for many hundreds of years on Asumar. It is commonly agreed that the climate on Asumar is slowly transitioning from a warmer to a cooler climate. While the temperatures are still comfortable in most of inhabited lands, it has been clear that the coastlines have been receding in lower areas of land. And in the northernmost inhabited areas, there have been problems with harsher winters destroying harvests. The reason for this cooling down is unknown, some believe the gods to be responsible, others say it’s the suns.
Asumar experiences seasons because of the axial tilt of 21.4 degrees. This tilt means that during one half of the year, one hemisphere receives more sunlight than the other, thus resulting in summer and winter. Apart from the tilt, there is another very important factor that results in seasons: the rings. As the position of the suns change during the year, so does the shadow that the rings produce. From fall to winter, the ringshadow moves from the equator towards the pole, shading a wider are as the season progresses. From winter to late spring, this is reversed: the shaded area moves back to the equator, becoming more and more narrow until it is almost unnoticeable. The areas that experience shading will receive considerably less sunlight, thus lowering the temperature. Some days can see temperature lowered by more than 10 degrees. This makes some days during spring and fall colder than the coldest day in the winter.
