Here's an idea; Put some kind of soft cover over the spike, like a sponge or a rubber ball or something.
Softer hugs, with much less risk of impalement; everyone wins!

I like Gardevoir and I read this one comic with a Gallade as the husband and he works as a fighter on the battle subway with a Bisharp and mienshao. Thing is its all in japanese. The comic picture is in my gallery
