Description
Literally surprised I was able to download a mod of FF1 Dawn of Souls called the Mod of Balance, which literally makes the difficulty of FF1 GBA feel like the NES version. Different from regular FF1, HP, MP, and stat caps are removed. This is the version with the 12 classes, which were introduced in 3.0, and the version is the latest Mod of Balance version, being 3.5. Here are the first 4 classes, Paladin, Ninja, Priest, and Archmage.
1.) Paladin - Equivalent to regular FF1's Knight, but can learn up to Level 6 magic, and can now uses the Heal magics. Has the best defense and HP of the 12 classes. Surprisedly, there is a Warrior class in the mod, but he's called Knight, and Knight hits harder than Paladin. Paladin is supposed to be the tank, of course.
2.) Ninja - Unlike regular FF1, who can equip almost everything that a Knight can, in the mod Ninja plays more like the Ninjas in later FFs (supposely IV and later). His equipment is way more limited (can't equip Leather Cap lol), and actually his defense and HP are crap for the most of the game (HP being 2nd lowest of 12 classes without Apples; Stamina being lowest of all 12 classes without Stamina Pluses), until later, where Ninja becomes decent if you can afford Genji equipment, which is his strongest gear. The Pro though, he's one of the hardest hitting classes, as I was testing, Ninja with Masamune hits harder than the Paladin with Ragnarok sometimes. You can make Ninja be your damage dealer, though watch his HP lol (Depending on your party setup, I would put him in the 3rd or 4th column for most of the game). Like regular FF1, he can use Black magic but now up to Level 6.
3.) Priest - Essentially the pure White Mage, supposely White Wizard.
I found it quite surprising that Priest can equip heavy armor. This class is actually quite good. Health is decent, and being able to equip heavy armor makes Priest being hard to take down. I would recommend picking this class for the v 3.5 party. Since the Priest is the pure white mage, I gave mostly magical equipment for increasing intelligence, except for Ribbon, and speaking of Ribbon, as I was researching equipment for the Mod of Balance, the Crystal Helm gave Fire, Ice and Lightning resistance (Mostly the better ribbon), which I gave to Priest. The Ribbon seems to have been nerfed somewhat in Mod of Balance, while it still gives status protection, it no longer has Fire/Ice/Lightning resistance, but the defense was increased from 1 to 3.
4.) Archmage - Essentially the pure black Mage, supposedly Black Wizard. Not much to say, since he's pretty similar to regular FF1's Black Wizard, but can learn every Black magic, and can use Flare (Sage can too). His Intelligence is the best of the 12 classes. He also has Destroy, a unblockable spell for 1000 damage, which is handy. I would recommend this class for a beginner.
