This was a piece done for a greeting card that really snuck up on me. I don’t remember doing the drawing at all; it almost seems to my memory that she sprang finished from the tip of my brush.
The pose wasn’t your usual angelic benevolence, her expression very world weary, the line style harkens to a sort of storybook style more common at the turn of the century. I could only think, “This is what my Guardian Angel must look and feel like at the end of the day.” And, any true artist, if he or she is honest, will admit to having more than their fair share of boneheaded days, and keeping those Guardian spirits working pretty much all the time.
