Everything starts somehow and somewhere, in a state far different from the final appearance. Folklore and myths that you hear daily are the same, though it’s up to you to decide whether or not to believe that they are real. For now though the job I hold is to guide you through the tale of the owl belonging to Alexandrio, Academy of the North. This is the land that houses scholars, merchants, and wizards of every shape and form. In the end, their wisdom is like their strength and the key to working against them. Each person seeking something highly unattainable in one lifetime, knowledge beyond compare. Vanity fills their souls over the fact they are far too proud of being known as the wisest kingdom and being the kingdom able to handle the cruel cold their winter brings. A thirst to create filling everyone’s soul.

Rivers vast and wide cover the lands of Alexandrio, carving deep into the ground to form dangerous canyons and gorges. Everything around them seems highly barren and deserted not leaving a trace behind. Areas are void of trees normally from storms tearing through the area almost violently yet some still have great pines reaching toward the skies. Despite the hostile land, they still choose to challenge nature with their presence as they learn. Larger animals avoid the animal due to a lack of larger prey, though rodents and small mammals can be found rummaging through the sparse undergrowth.

Among the many wizards, scholars, and merchants there, sits a ruler. Frail and growing older with the years passing, he’s rarely seen leaving the northern lands unless summoned by the other rulers. While wise, he’s still highly vain and stubborn when you try to request things from him. Without gaining something in return he finds helping the other kingdoms pointless. Power goes straight to his head even in old age and he feels there’s no need to earn others respect, he’s smarter so to him he should already have it. In his growing age however he has become easier to trick. Throughout the years into the growing age, he’d been spotted talking to a male known as Grandora, one of the strongest wizards alive in the lands who later vanished into hiding.

Soon after Grandora’s rather grand vanishing, the Owl, Pythagora, was created. While a highly important part to the tale not much even the owl would remember. Upon awakening for what felt like a first time, cold air had wrapped around his body like a blanket, managing to reach him even past his clothing. A first recollection would be of a old house with the lights from broken glass creating patterns along the roof while other tore at his hands dully. For a moment he might ponder why that hadn’t hurt until a pain that felt like it’d split his head clean over tore through him. Everything felt entirely overloaded as the thoughts shot through his mind.

Pythagoras's mind struggled almost violently to place the thoughts and sew them together through the pain while his gaze darted around. One hand shook in a violently fashion struggling to even be controlled through a simple movement. It threaded through the silver hair of male trying to stop the pain. Even the cold couldn’t stop the heat flooding his body as sweat covered the males pale skin and his breath came in sharp intervals. Facts flowed wildly and freely throughout a mind not built to comprehend them. Each one picking at his brain like a starving vulture as they attempted to settle while his mind tried to force them away in confusion.

Eventually a sudden pain tore through his body, his lips parting to let out a screech that tore through the air like needles. Every muscle in his body went stiff as they tightened another screech pulsing through the air as his body began to change, jerking violently as the change took place. His mind dulling slightly while the thoughts of a normal human were stripped away leaving the instincts of a wild animal, that of a bird of prey. Everything was changing at once forcing the barrier around his mind to shatter violently to let the thoughts flood freely as they wished.

It could’ve been moments or hours till the sharp pains faded out leaving his mind buzzing wildly. Instead of screaming at the pain, the owl left in the man’s wake merely remained as silent as the falling snow. It’s throat sore from the new sound that’d ripped through it uninvited. As he began to move, the owl’s body shook as he tried to readjust to the new body parts, but soon his body slowly turning back to it’s human form with a sharp stinging pain as he moved toward a shape settled into the corner across the room. The shape of the dying wizard whose wheezing breaths broke the new silence.

Throughout that night he’d learn of the dangers the kingdom had created toward the environment through their studies. He’d learn of pain and suffering of the cycles of life. As the morning would rise he’d learn of his creation, and his creator. For the first time in his short memory, he’d feel a pain stronger than the pain he’d felt as the memories nearly tore his brain apart. The pain of being abandoned by his only family he’d known for that short time because even if was only a few hours the Grand Wizard had spent his dying spell to protect and guard the land to create a son in a manner.

For months after Pythagoras wandered alone though, when he wasn't out wandering he was staying around in one of the canyons, where there was a large water fall full of ice shattered like glass flowing through it. During the cold nights when water froze off the owl’s screech was used to shatter the ice freeing it the pool over the edge again. At these times near the waterfall the other creatures couldn’t bother him perched among his shattered ice, content to wait in that peaceful state.

Some of the kingdom would report seeing a humanoid figure perched on the old mountain a white cloak guarding him from the night air and mist circling his body like a second cloak. Up close he had skin as pale as it could get with white hair covered with a few darker spots. It was a rather older and regal appearance he’d give off as his body’s colors flickered lazily. At first, you might think a touch would shatter him until he’d let out a prey bird’s chilling screech that he seemed almost deaf to. He’d never cracked under his own powers, but that was his flaw; he strives for the perfection most crave. One mistake hits his ego, mind, and soul and starts to burn it until the light can chase his vanity away.

I am a great lover of philosophy and "         "ers and of course the Ancient Greeks! The painting was brilliant and I love the owl and the universal shards, not to mention the waterfall!!!!!
The story behind it is also sheer brilliance!I love the intro and how the owl can shape shift into one of the greatest Ancient Greek mathematicians of all time! The owl perfectly fits with the actual person!!
I am totally in love with this idea and painting! A2 +B2 = C2!!

I'm glad to hear the stories been read by people and feed back on them is wonderful, Greek myths and myths in general are a joy to read and write.

They are indeed, it's like creating you're own fairy tale based on personifications of nouns which people happened to worship in that time! It's like how ghost stories work: some write them down (homer actually had to remember all the words because he was blind), others pass them on form generation to generation. They are heard one way or another and it the story even though it's altered a bit is still cool and exciting to hear.

You sure is one hell of a greek fan ... Please stay with me as the other 3 more legends are base on greek mythology ... You will love it !

Absolutely! You're my friend of course I'll stay with you! And even though Greek myths are my favorite, Pythagoras was an actual greek person. That's who the Pythagorean Theorem is named for!
Still, I love the greek philosophers especially the big three! And I know I will love it!! can't wait to see the next one!
