For a buddy in my art classI try my best to make them as realistic as I can, but you can do so much with rainbow and translucent hair....

Have you ever thought that what we know as G4 MLP is basically a "Mister Gray" type, with its trademark huge almond eyes, small mouth and comparatively large head? The only difference (apart from hooves and other equine features) is presence of nose on their faces.
Thus, when we say "my little ponies", we do not think "horses", we mean "cute quadripedal intelligent aliens".
What I'm trying to say is, seeing the characters as genuine animal horses just... freaks me out. A lot.
(Don't get me wrong: the art itself, however, is very good.)
