Alternate History: As relations with the Klingon Empire continue to deteriorate, Starfleet finds itself hard pressed to maintain the technological edge over the numerically superior opposition. The Siege of Organia was a bitter lesson exposing the inherent weaknesses of existing Federation designs and tactics in fleet engagements.

With the reality of the agile Klingon "D7M" variant coming online by 2270, the vaunted Constitution Class responded with the "Phase II" project. A significant spaceframe redesign, uprated weaponry and new propulsion geometry characterize the refit. Considering the limited resources and available manpower due to the war effort, the result is still largely impressive despite some compromise. Now reclassified as a battlecruiser, Phase II conversions are already being fast tracked by SF Operations. The Enterprise and Columbia have been recently completed, and the Constitution has already earned her first kills in the contested Dul'Pha Expanse.
