Description
This piece references character death from within Attack on Titan. It showcases characters dealing with death. This has spoilers for Attack on Titan. If you have not seen all of Attack on Titan, you have been warned that this contains spoilers.

You've just gotten back from a mission outside the gates. As usual, there were many injuries and casualties. This mission was supposed to change everything, but it just seems like a giant failure. Most were not informed of the goal of this mission, but as a squad leader, you knew that the goal was to weed out the "mole" in the Scouting Legion. No one knew that they also were a Titan Shifter. You were good friends with Levi and his team. You were devastated to learn that not only had you lost your team, but you lost all your close friends in Levi's.
You found that you had wandered into the cafeteria of the Scouting Legion Headquarters. You sat down on one of the benches with a sigh. You can still see all their happy, hopeful faces eating and joking in the cafeteria. You clear your throat before whispering, "There's a grief that can't be spoken. There's a pain goes on and on. Empty chairs at empty tables. Now my friends are dead and gone."

Eren and Levi peer around the corner and watch sorrowfully as (Y/N) mourns the loss of her friends. Eren looks at Levi and asks, "Should we do something?"
"Shut up, brat. We all have our ways to mourn. Let her have hers."

You look wistfully around as you say, "Here they talked of revolution. Here it was they lit the flame. Here they sang about tomorrow, but tomorrow never came."
"From the table in the corner, they could see a world reborn. And they rose with voices ringing. I can hear them now! The very words that they had sung became their last communion on the lonely barricade at dawn."
Your voice begins to quiver and crack as tears flood your eyes and a few slip down your face. "Oh my friends, my friends forgive me. That I live and you are gone. There's a grief that can't be spoken. There's a pain goes on and on!"
You stand up as emotion overcomes you. "Phantom faces at the window! Phantom shadows on the floor! Empty chairs at empty tables where my friends will meet no more."

Eren and Levi watch as tears pour down your face. Your chest heaving with breathlessness and emotion. Levi looks over at Eren and says, "I've got this covered, brat. You can go rest now." Eren just salutes and runs off.

Tears are flooding down your face as you start walking around as emotion once again takes over you. "Oh my friends, my friends, don't ask me what your sacrifice was for! Empty chairs at empty tables where my friends will sing no more." Your knees buckle, but before you can hit the ground, Levi catches you and pulls you to his chest. You clutch at him, your body wracked with sobs.
When you start to calm down, Levi says, "I miss them too."
