Description
The ultimate life form and rival to Sonic the Hedgehog, Shadow the Hedgehog.
Shadow is a hedgehog and black arms hybrid created by Dr. Eggman’s father, Gerald Robotnik, and was made to cure the Neuro-Immune Deficiency Syndrome from his daughter, Maria Robotnik. But then the military army G.U.N. captured him and put him into stasis due to Shadow being considered a threat to human society and Maria was shot down from G.U.N. 50 years later, he was released by Dr. Eggman, in order to take over the world, until he presumably sacrificed himself to save the world from the Biolizard to avenge Maria. Shadow was actually alive but he had amnesia after the fight and would also meet Black Doom, the leader of the Black Arms. Until he collected the seven Chaos Emeralds to regain the memories of his past, uncover the truth and save the world yet again. And now he’s back once again to prove he is the ultimate in Project AT. So getting right into things, Shadow is a below-average lightweight fighter (the same weight value as Sonic) with the 2nd fastest running speed in the game, he has 2 jumps and is able to Wall Jump and Wall Cling.
For his jab attack, Shadow does a 3-hit jab combo that has him do a chop with the side of his hand horizontally, then to a high spin kick and ending it in a reverse spin kick, in reference to his combo from Sonic Battle. His dash attack has him slide along the ground until he stops, a reference to the Shadow Slider from Sonic Battle. His side tilt has him attack in a somersault, with flames emitting from his air boots, a reference to the fire somersault from Sonic Adventure 2, and just like in the game, this attack propels Shadow slightly forwards. His up tilt has him do a backwards flip kick, an attack that’s part of an attack combo seen in Shadow the Hedgehog, and his down tilt has him do a spinning kick, in reference to the spin kick from Sonic 06, this attack is unique as if you tap the button again during the end lag of spin kick, Shadow does another spin that has a slightly larger radius than the previous spin kick, and you can do another one afterwards as well, this attack is in reference to the tornado combo from Sonic 06.
For his Side Smash, he uses the Chaos Upper, an attack that has Shadow turn around and grind his fist, creating a small violet and purple pulsating sphere around it then backhands with the same fist, knocking the opponent into the air. This has some slight disjoint from the front and knocks the foes upwards. For his Up Smash, he uses the Chaos Burst, an attack that has Shadow spin around and hide away from sight and reappear while creating a small barrier around himself, the barrier deals multiple hits of damage before launching foes with the final hit. For his Down Smash, he uses the Chaos Nightmare, an attack that has Shadow grinds his fists at his sides while floating off the ground, creating spheres of chaos, this attack semi-spikes foes.
For his N-air, he does a single horizontal helicopter spin kick, this is in reference to his aerial attack in Shadow the Hedgehog; his F-air is an innovative attack that has Shadow do an ax kick from high to low, this attack being capable of spiking foes if it sweetspots; his B-air is much like Sonic’s B-air in Ultimate, being a hook kick, his U-air has him backflip in the air and kick above him and his D-air has him use the Shadow Rocket, which has him dive kick diagonally downwards, again, similarly to Sonic’s D-air.
Shadow grabs with both arms and pummels with a knee jab. His forward throw has him elbow check the foe, his back throw has him teleport from behind the foe and roundhouse kick them in the back of the head, his up throw has him teleport up high with the foe and kick them further upwards and his down throw has Shadow do an aerial forward somersault kick on the foe to trip them and then stomp on the foe while his air shoes emit flames, to rack up the damage, this throw does not send foes flying.
Special AttacksFor Shadow’s neutral special, just like with Sonic and his homing attack, Shadow will make use of his version of the homing attack, the Chaos Attack. It functions nearly the same as Sonic’s Homing Attack, only the main difference being that when he hits a foe, he can combo into five extra rapid strikes for some extra damage, but however the foe can DI out of the combo rather easily and if shielded, can lead to some heavy punishment, so handle it with care.
His side special has him use the Chaos Power, Chaos Spear. It’s a basic projectile attack that has Shadow fire a single energy needle straight forwards and if used in the air, fires diagonally downwards.
Next, for Shadow’s up special, he actually has 2, one while grounded and one while airborne. So for Shadow’s grounded up special, he uses the chaos power, Chaos Blast! This has Shadow charge up energy and then release a powerful explosion, dealing massive multi-hitting damage to anyone too close, though this attack does have a ton of start-up and on top of that, unlike moves such as Warlock Punch, Falcon Punch or Amyr, this move has no armor at any point in the duration. And for Shadow’s aerial up special, he uses his iconic chaos power, Chaos Control, by all means, this is a very simple teleport that has Shadow vanish and in a burst of energy reappear in another location based on controller input. This teleport does not deal damage whether she disappears or reappears.
And for Shadow’s down special, it has him use the Spin Dash. It works nearly in the same vein as Sonic’s Down Special, but there are some extra additions to this spin dash to make it more cooler. Now you have to hold down the button to charge up the dash instead of repeatedly pressing the button, however, if you hold it down for a while, then Shadow will stop spinning and be seen in a green tinted aura, then once you let go of the button, Shadow will then do the Light Speed Attack and charge at any foes that we’re too close to him with barely any start lag (since you know, Light Speed, it’s fast). This special is wonderful for attacking multiple opponents within quick succession.
The Blue Blur’s metallic doppelganger invented by Dr. Eggman, Metal Sonic.
Metal Sonic was invented not only to copy Sonic but to also surpass his organic reference, wanting only one thing and one thing alone, to prove he’s the superior Sonic, being so obsessed with outdoing Sonic that he would go against his creator if he needs to. Now while Metal Sonic is meant to mimic Sonic, he’s actually not limited to that, Metal Sonic’s overall purpose is to be a copy robot, copying moves from practically anyone much like his Copycat ability in Sonic Rivals 1 & 2, so it’d make sense for him to show what he’s made of as Shadow’s Echo Fighter.
In terms of mechanical differences, Metal Sonic has a faster running speed than Shadow, making him the fastest fighter in terms of running speed, however, he’s also lighter (being around the weight value of Sephiroth) and he has very little traction, making him a very slippery fighter like Luigi.
But he does have his own unique side special, in the form of copying one of Sonic’s techniques, the Sonic Boom. Metal Sonic clenches his body while drawing wind around him, before using it to launch himself forward with a burst of speed so great that it breaks the sound barrier. Tapping the special button has Metal Sonic simply zoom straight forwards at high speeds, this move grants Metal Sonic heavy armor to all attacks (except for grabs), and while it does rather pathetic damage, it does insane knockback. However, this move has a cooldown of around 10 seconds and the speed that he travels in is so fast that you could end up speeding to the blast zone if you’re not careful. And another thing to keep in mind, is that much like with the Bullet Bill item, Metal Sonic becomes treated as a projectile, meaning reflectors can cause him to fly off into the opposite direction.
For Shadow’s Final Smash, it has Shadow transform into Super Shadow with the 7 Chaos Emeralds, and flies around and dashes across the battlefield in multiple directions, doing damage to whoever he touches. After a while, he then uses the Spear of Light from Sonic 06, firing a barrage of Chaos Spears that home in on foes randomly, afterwards, Shadow flies onto the center of the stage, reverting back to normal.
And for Metal Sonic’s Final Smash, it has him transform into his most terrifying form, Metal Overlord (Don’t worry, the transformation won’t last for 5 years)! He appears in the background of the stage, firing a barrage of crystal missiles that traps anyone hit by them, while Metal Overlord fires a powerful laser beam from its mouth towards the stage, the beam can be aimed with a reticle and foes hit by it will rack up damage before being launched away, after that Metal Overlord reverts back to his original appearance to resume the fight.
For colours, this was just easy as Shadow the Hedgehog has a multiplayer mode in which you can play as multiple different Shadow Androids, each with various colors. The first alt has him in yellow stripes, the second has him in pink stripes, the third has him in blue stripes, the fourth has him in orange stripes, the fifth has him in green stripes, the sixth alt has him in greyish-blue stripes, in reference to Mephiles the Dark from Sonic 06 and the final alt is an alternate costume, it has Shadow in his race outfit from Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.
And for Metal Sonic’s colours, his first alt has him in a pearl sheen, in reference to the Silver Sonic from Sonic 2 for the Master System; his second alt has him in a dark grey sheen, in reference to the Silver Sonic from Sonic 2 on the Sega Genesis; his third alt has him in a yellow sheen, in reference to Mecha Sonic’s super state in Sonic and Knuckles as well as the Tails Doll from Sonic R; his third alt has him in a red sheen, in reference to the World Entrance Level 2 Boss from Knuckles Chaotix as well as Metal Knuckles from Sonic R; his fourth alt has him in a black and yellow sheen, a direct reference to Metal Sonic 3.0; his fifth alt give his body a grey blue sheen, in reference to Sonic the Werehog from Sonic Unleashed; his sixth alt gives his body cyan stripes, in reference to the Circuits outfit from Sonic Rivals 2 and his final alt is an alternate costume, it has him in the appearance of Neo Metal Sonic from Sonic Heroes.
For his stage intro, Shadow teleports onto the stage, nice and simple. And Metal Sonic’s intro has him simply fly onto the stage, also nice and simple. For taunts, Shadow’s first taunt has Shadow cross his arms and scoffs at his opponents, the second has him clench his fist while saying “Let me show you my real power.”, when using this taunt, Shadow will actually say different quotes whenever he’s chaos boosted, if he’s in hero mode, he’ll say “Behold, the ultimate power!” and if he’s in dark mode, he’ll say “Death to all who oppose me!” (Dang… chill out Shadow) and his final has him toss a Chaos Emerald in the air then catch it and say “Time to put this rest!” And for Metal Sonic’s taunts, his first has him face the camera and wag his finger, something that he does in Sonic CD and Sonic Mania; his second has him do a backflip then clench his fist, this is in reference to animations in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games and his final has Metal Sonic do a frontflip and a DBZ-esque power-up pose like in Sonic 4: Episode Metal.
And finally for victory animations, his first has run in with a spin then pose with his arms crossed while saying “I’m the coolest.”, a reference to his victory animation from Sonic Adventure 2, his second has him hold his arm up as a Chaos Emerald floats down on his hand, then poses forwards while saying “Hmph, perfect.”, a reference to his victory animation from Shadow the Hedgehog and the final has him walk in from the left, cross his arms and say “Not even a challenge”, another victory animation from Shadow the Hedgehog. And for Metal Sonic’s victory animations, his first has Metal Sonic fly in from the foreground, then turns to face the camera like when winning a race in Sonic Adventure 2, his second has him hold his hand up emitting static from it, just like how he does before transforming into Metal Overlord, then end in a floating pose similar to that of Sonic 4 Episode 1 Secret Ending, during this victory animation, if you’re using the Neo Metal Sonic alt and are fighting against Shadow, he’ll say “Ultimate Life Form Data has been copied.” and the final has him simply do some breakdance moves, similar to Sonic’s victory animations, then ending it by simply looking to the right, which is in reference to a scene in Sonic the Hedgehog OVA. And for kicks with Metal Sonic’s victory theme, he has two different victory themes depending on which region you’re playing on, the US and JPN victory themes from Sonic CD.
And that is what Shadow is capable of in Project AT, with Metal Sonic as an echo fighter. And with that, all the starters have been revealed for Project AT. I won't be posting any of the other fighters for the next few months since that I'm still currently working on them so instead, I'll probably post about any cut newcomers that I had originally planned. So, If you wish to see more of Project AT, follow on me Reddit, and if you have any questions on the moveset, then leave them down below. I’ll see you next time for the next fighter!
