Description
As Eva swam deeper into the icy lake, she tried to keep calm and focused. Not only did she have to find the backpack and bring it back up to the surface in less then ten minutes, but she also had to remember where the opening she came through was. If she gets lost and can’t find her way back then she would surely drowned. It didn’t take long for Eva reached the bottom, the added weight of the metal cuffs speeded up her decent. The ground was mostly bare, with the exception of a few pieces of seaweed only rocks and dirt could be seen. It took only a moment for Eva to locate the backpack, it laid on the ground about fifty meters from the opening about the length of an Olympic swimming pool. Eva immediately began to swim towards it. Countless hours she spent in training pools doing laps have helped make Eva a superb swimmer, but between the metal cuffs weighting her down and the freezing cold water slowly tightening her muscles Eva was struggling to maintain her speed.By the time Eva reached the backpack she began to feel her lungs tightening in her chest. Eva knew that she didn’t have much time left, she needed to back to the surface quickly before she couldn’t hold it in anymore. Eva grabbed the backpack and tried to swing it onto her shoulders, but as soon as she did the weight of the ten pounds from inside the backpack began to pull her to the bottom of the lake like an anchor of a ship. It took almost everything she had just to keep afloat, she was pumping her legs so hard that they could be used to move motorboats. This of course burned through her remaining oxygen much faster then before, that it why she waste no time and started to swim back the way she came.
As Eva pushed through the cold, the weight, and the pain that she was feeling she tried to keep her eyes on the icy ceiling in the hope of finding the hole that she came through. Eva was beginning to convulse as her lungs were on fire, starved for fresh air that was no where in sight. It was then that Eva saw a faint glow ahead on the ice, it was then that Eva knew that she found the exit. When Eva reached the light she tried to ascend to the surface, but was halted when her head banged on something. The bump to her head caused Eva to lose focus and let out a mouth full of air. Eva looked up and saw that there was a sheet of ice covering her exit, the water must have refrozen when she was diving. Usually someone on the surface would break and stir the water to ensure the hole didn’t freeze over but it looks like her trainer didn’t brother to do it. Probably to test her resolve under pressure.
Eva figure that the newly formed ice wasn’t as thick as the rest of the lake, so it might be possible to break through. A diver’s knife would make quick work of the ice, but her diving equipment was only a mask and her sports bikini. With no other options Eva curled the fingers of her right hand into a fist and started punching the ice above her head. Even though it felt like she was punching a brick wall Eva kept hitting the ice for she knew that if she didn’t break through, she will drown. After about three hard hits cracks started to appear, getting bigger with every punch Eva swung. At this point Eva’s lung began to falter, her body forced her to open her mouth a let out another cluster of bubbles. With her lungs almost completely out of air Eva’s punches became weaker and weaker. As things slowly started to go black Eva saw that the ice was about ready to break, all it needed was one more powerful punch to do it. So summoning the remainder of her strength, Eva brought her forearm all the way back and like a bullet from a gun shot her fist straight up for one final punch.
