We made this as we were feeling optimistic, as we were recovering from a major injury. Breaking through barricades, through the shadows, and erupting into a blossom like a hellflower (higanbana). We liked the saluting men in the bottom right, looking up from a hilly landscape down below. Shadows, and then smoke as it begins to launch… Overall, this was a very fun painting to make. I was actually extremely embarrassed, when I first turned this out, but looking back at it now I like it even more. There’s a bit of joy to this that I think I need to carry forward into my other paintings
