He was a man who helped Nintendo with many things throughout the years. He compressed Pokemon Gold/Silver so GameFreak could fit the ENTIRE Kanto region in the game, he helped fix Earthbound/Mother 2's source code so that it was stable, he helped Sakurai with the programming for the first Super Smash Bros., he ported Pokemon Red/Blue/Green's battle system into Pokemon Stadium without any guidelines, he also cut his salary in half when the Wii U was struggling, and he was an overall nice guy altogether who saw the people who bought Nintendo's games as actual gamers and not consumers. It's truly sad to see someone like him die at such a young age.

I remember when I got the NES for Christmas. I was only 5 years old. It came with the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt Double Game Cartridge and the NES Zapper.
That was my first exposure to Video Games, and not the last by ANY stretch of the imagination.
Thank you, Mr. Iwata, for basically defining my interests for the rest of my life.
