Perhaps one of the rarest forms of empath, Gem is an emotional mirror. She is constantly reflecting back the emotions and reactions of others so strongly that her own subtler feelings are drown out. Some might go as far as saying that she had no feelings of her own. Not realizing that the cold indifference she is showing is merely their own aloof attitudes being returned in equal measure.

And then she met Angelica. Originally Angelica was attracted to Jem by her long luscious hair, she just loves hair having Godiva length tresses of her own. Naturally Jem reflecting this happiness back to Angelica, who in turn got even became even more friendly. At long last, she had finally met someone else who understood hair. Naturally this increased glee was in turn reflected back to an exuberant Angelica. It's hard to say how long this feedback loop might have continued. But when last seen, each girl had a blissful smile as she was brushing the other's long hair.

Since then Jem's own personality has start to emerge. While still a bit timid and shy around the other fairies, Jem has started to make friends. She can often be found with the other longer haired girls as they bush and style each other's hair.

The full extend of her empathic abilities are not known. After seeing a television episode of Star Trek, some of the fairy nurses had wanted to see if she was able to heal/cast off injuries. But so far Jem as made it clear she doesn't want to try. Not that she didn't reflect their enthusiasm. She just didn't like pain. The emotions hurt / scare her.
