So this was an assignment done for my Illustration class last year; we were to take the Hansel and Gretel fairytale and design an original book cover for it. In my case, I chose to turn the witch into a Wendigo. For those of you unfamiliar with what a Wendigo is, it's a cannibalistic half-human creature that originated among the Algonquian People along the Atlantic coast and the Great Lake areas. The way the story goes, is that a human being that consumes the flesh of another human will turn into a monstrous Wendigo with an appetite for human flesh. As the Wendigo eats, it grows (indefinitely) in proportion to the size of the meals it eats so that it is never satisfied. There are many different descriptions of what a Wendigo looks like, but all descriptions agree on one thing; it is very skeletal in appearance, and with elongated limbs.
