Well this is certainly refreshing.
I've got a number of atheist friends and we get along just fine.
Weather a person be of faith or not, some people are just perpetually offended and looking for an excuse to show it.

Honestly I wish I could say the same was true for me. As much as I would love to say you're all morons, many Christians I deal with on a daily basis are hateful, I can't. Somehow whenever I'm about to just give up I come across someone like you who manages to restore some my faith in humanity.

I don't blame you for being atheist. I think most Atheists have a testimony of the "Falling away" that Paul speaks of in 2 Thessalonians 2:2-3 "That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us (The apostles), as that the day of Christ (His second coming) is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition" [Parenthetical annotations mine].
There was a loss of actual priesthood authority. It is believed that this authority was passed by Paul to Barnabas (I think that was his name) when Paul was in Rome. However, if you look at the fruits of the Western Church (what became the Catholic church after the counsel of Nicaea), you begin to see that this cannot be the case. I believe a faction of this authority survived for a time in the Eastern Churches but was also lost overtime. There truly was a falling away and dark ages ensued. If you look at some of the medieval philosophies that arose out of Byzantium, you see an almost absurd view of who and what God is via so-called negative theology. "The only way to know God is to not know God. You must disavow your you-ness." And so forth. To an extent, this absurdity has continued in various forms to this day.
We now see many churches preaching to get gain rather than serving the flock. I mean, the purpose of a congregation is merely to fellowship and serve those within and in the community. It's a sort of gathering of people who want to do good. I think many Christians have forgotten this. Plus, it doesn't help that there are strong anti-religious messages in the media.
Yes, many of us do take strong stances against homosexual marriage and abortion, but only because we believe that God places immense importance on the creation of life and on raising children in a home with a mother an father. It is vastly important to us and reaches deep into our hearts.
We like atheists. It's always fun to see the light gleaming in their eyes when the Spirit of the Lord testifies to their minds that what they are hearing is true, even if current Scientific methods are not yet advanced enough to explain everything. I don't beleive the Earth is 6,000 years old; I beleive the Earth is 4.5 billion years old. I believe the universe is about 13 billion years old. I believe the creation story is a mythological explanation for the creation of earth and should not trump scientific understanding. I believe that extraterrestrial life exists (and I believed that even before NASA started hinting at it recently). I believe in evolution but I also believe it is different than the Darwinian model: I believe it is cyclical (it's a new theory on the fringes, I'll leave it at that).
Please don't feel that Christians hate you or want to bash you. Many of them have a tribal mentality, almost like a sports team. But you shouldn't allow yourself to be vitriolic back towards them (al-a Bill Maher). We can get along even if we don't see eye to eye.
Before I end this dissertation, I'd like to offer to tell you more about that priesthood authority situation because the picture is no longer bleak: It's here on the earth again. Have a nice day.

That's where my concern lies. How many children have you adopted? Children that gay couples would happily raise with more love than many mothers and fathers I see today. Β StatisticallyΒ gay couples are MORE likely to adopt a special needs child than anyone else. Are you seriously claiming that it is better for children to be brought up as wards of the state? That one or no parents are better than two loving parents of the same gender?Β
And that's ASSUMING they want a child. I don't. My Aunt and Uncle have been married +20 years yet they have no kids. Should they not be married? What about people who are infertile? Should they be banned?Β
Β Marriage had NOTHING to do with the church until the middle ages and then the church was only informed of the marriage because they were the record keepers.
As for the abortion isn't each fetus a person? Doesn't god have a plan for each person? What if abortion IS his plan? You have no idea what his plan is and to claim that you do is putting yourself on the same level as god. Claiming to speak for him.

While I don't believe that anyone from the pony universe could believe in Christ, I like the picture somewhat. Of course there is the regular problems such as having a "white" when it's commonly agreed that if he existed, he would have been dark in tone. Other than that, it's ok. I still don't think that you can just mix Jesus with anything. The worlds most widely followed imaginary friend meets ponies.
