They canceled all classes at my college this week and might go to online only. There are only 8 cases in PHX with 4.4 million people. Seems a little extreme to me

It's about slowing down the spread, so people get ill one after another and not all at the same time. Have you heard of Italy? Lombardia's hospitals are in a state like war, with patients on the corridors and active triage in who gets a respiration machine and who not. That's what has to be prevented. I am in the process of switching my TT-RPG rounds to online, because one of my regular players is in geriatric care and another one is in hospital on a respiration weaning station, and that is too short a way for Corona in MY opinion.
But yeah, the panic is ridiculous. Lately, I was at a playground that a little zoo attached for the third birthday of my middle one. A man approached me and asked me where the high school was, because there was somebody associated with Corona on that school. It was a SUNDAY. I told him the high school was about a mile away. I didn't tell him that on a Sunday, it might be the safest spot for him, because the kids will surely not be there, but far more likely on a playground... no need to add to the panic.
