I absolutely agree. A Kalashnikov (personally would prefer an AKM variant myself), plenty of 30-round magazines and 7.62x39mm and that would be my go-to gun in a zombie apocalypse. Throw in a SIG P226 for a side-arm, a good quality Wakizashi, and if I have any room leftover after throwing in the survival essentials of food, water, clothes, etc., a Springfield Armory M21 for long-range use and I'd be set for life.
And in terms of legality, if your in a zombie apocalypse you've got more important things to worry about than seeing if something is legal or not. And if your in the UK an L1A1/FAL would be a far smarter choice in terms of planning for the long run than an SA80/L85 or whatever they call their bullpups nowadays. More range, more power, and more reliable, even after they put those things through the HK factory to get reliability issues fixed.

i'd use it but a fully automatic gun isn't good cuz you'd waste ammo...........maybe the semi-auto civi version would work but hey its a good gun.never breaks down and you can buy it for $15 in a third world country

any 7,62 or 5,56 NATO firing weapon wopuld be a very good choice, since either the HK G3 of FN-FAL are stockpiled in A LOT of contrys you could get your hands on one pretty easely. and like others have said, single shot+ dead eye accuracy= win.

depends, here in England i would use a 7.62 round but it is a rare round(i think it could be illegal), so to my use a .22 as it is the most common round in England! A Rugger 10 22, with bi pod, red dot with a flick up x4 scope, silencer and a night-vision attachment(for the scope).

Well, both police and the army used L1A1's until the late 1980's so I think it would still be able to find some in armories. That's what I meant.

I almost completely agree with this, I think the Heckler and Kosche G36 is good for damage done and ammo capacity, though it doesn't have the same record for unstoppable reliability or the newwer H&K 416 which although 60 years late is a close runner for the AK-47 but inline with weapons of the era compared to the 40's-50's the PPSh-41 is always handy if you have a steady arm you could clear a good area with that thing!

My personal Anti-Zombie Arsenal is a Winchester 30-30 Lever Action, a Taurus Raging Bull in .454 Cassul (can also take .45 LC), and a Hunting Crossbow for those quiet moments. Oh and a Machete or an Axe. Other tools for other situations of course, but I personally feel the AK-47 though incredibly reliable, leaves to much of the desire to go full auto. You don't want that, you need head shots not spray and pray. On the other hand a wall of lead will sure as hell slow them down.

I'd be the zombie in Z-day.. living in Abu Dhabi it's hard to escape millions so closely packed. But I'd put up one hell of a fight! If they were just groaning and slowly stepping zombies, I'd keep a nice long sword handy (chainsaws require maintenance and petrol)...
But yeah, I would personally have a beautiful AK-47. The M4 etc would snap if you swung it like a club. The AK is brilliant; throw it, smack it, heat it, bury it, it'll still fire and knock down some zombie scum... bastards trying to eat my flesh.

If you are scared that you will run out of ammo, you should get soviet GP-25 or american M203 granade launchers and install it under AK's handle (Like in Rambo 3). This way way you can use your intellegence, I mean make zombies come into a big crowd and then BANG!
By the way, the soldier looks like Hank from Resident Evil 4.

your all wrong, guns wont do you any good in a zombie apocalypse, you need combat weapons like machetes, swords, axes and any melle or bladed weapon, coz when it goes south, you need to rely on one thing, your self, and guns run out of ammo eventually.

that's not entirely true,the whole "guns won't do any good in a zombie apocalypse" bit, having guns is advised, but a full auto is not because of the low accuracy and the low chance of a head shot, for the guns category, a shotgun(close combat) and a rifle(long-range, usually rim-fire) is choice with a pistol as a backup. it is also essential that you do have a melee weapon for WHEN you run out of ammo, because like you said, it's not a matter of 'if', it's a matter of when your ammo runs out, and even then, a bladed weapon is advised to ensure the kills.

It's a must. It's one of those books that's a funny/serious type, you know that the likelihood of a zombie outbreak in infinitesimally small, yet the book states it like it's commonplace and something that everyone needs to prepare for. LoL
It really is a great read though.

The guy who wrote the Zombie Survival Guide also wrote "World War Z", which y'all might also like. It contains a showdown between the NBC-equipped US Army and all the zombies of New York, in the small town of Yonkers.
The weapon that finally turned the tide? Single-shot rifles, mass-produced. Tactics and bite-proof uniforms helped a lot.

That's the great thing about the AK...you can neglect it, but it will keep firing as long as you have ammo. But yes, you might wanna clean it every year or two.

That's not true. There are stories of people burying AKs in mud and using them again. The gun will jam if neglegted. It's a good idea, when facing zombies, to empty a few clips into them, retreat whilst firing a pistol, then clean the barrel when the coast is clear.

Ah, you've read the Zombie Survival Guide, which forgets the current market for AR parts in the US, making the AR a more versatile platform. Still, if you don't have any armoring skill, the AK is top notch. God Bless Kalashnikov!

Problem with the AK in the United States and Western Europe (NATO Countries especially) is ammunition will be hard to find. 7.62x39 is just not nearly as common as 5.56x45mm (.223 rem). Get yourself to a military or police arsenal and you'll be awash in the stuff.
So, being in the western US I'll stick with my AR with the ACOG.
Really the ammo you want to be shooting is probably .30-06... so M1 Garand! .30-06 is freaking everywhere in states where deer hunting is common.

You know the funny thing is? In the video game battlefield 2, the AK47 lacked accuracy and fire rate-speed, but it somehow it had a longer range than the M16 (which was more accurate and had a faster fire rate, but had less distance and didn't do as much damage)
