Rainbow Dash decided to take Twilight up to a cloud, so that the nighttime loving unicorn could get a clear view of a beautiful meteor shower.I've been wanting to do this image forever, and have actually made several rough sketches over the past few months. I just never was able to create a base-sketch that I liked enough to actually vector before now.
Base image drawn using Paint Tool SAI and a Wacom Intous4 Medium tablet. Final vector drawn using Illustrator CS5. MLP:FiM, Rainbow Dash, and Twilight Sparkle belong to Hasbro, art is mine.

I got the inspiration for this picture while reading a similar scene in a Twilight x Cheerilee fic, but it's not really based on that fic, as there's a good number of differences between that scene in this picture.

It was a Twidash fic I was thinking of and it had a scene exactly like this. Wish I knew which one it was, I think a few of them did the same thing.

I know there is more than one but for the life of me can't remember which, on of them RD has some terrible incurable disease and confesses her love for Twilight and they make the most of the time she has left.

I can see what you're saying too. I tweaked the scale and rotation of her head and eye a little bit, how's it look now?

You made her head smaller. Heh, that's not what I meant, but it does look better now. I meant her forehead, actually. It looks a little too steep at the top. Ponies from the side are a pain. I gave up a sketch the other day, because I couldn't get AJ's jar right. And I already made myself a guide, too.

Yeah, it's not the easiest perspective to draw, and it's one of the less common poses too. I was trying create emphasize that her head was tilting back, gazing at the night sky, but really that just resulted in the manes being drawn at an angle.
