I agree. There's not much originality here, it looks like a character from Twilight....The quality is good, but I don't think it deserves a DD...

That's kinda of mean to say D: Art is subjective, what you think is better doesn't mean everyone agrees with you.
Man here I thought these newer generations would be more open minded, instead people just hate on everything and jump in the bandwagon together.
I'm not personally into vampire type things but the model did really good, and the lighting is amazing. Some people just snap a shot of their cat sleeping, and it makes front page, even if there is no work into it at all. The front page isn't always the end all be all of cool.

Well to be fair, the newer generations are ones who destroyed the vampire. We really did destroy one of the greatest pieces of lore ever =[
And I totally agree that we should be more accepting and open to new ideas (seriously read my journals if you don't believe me 
So I personally think that's one reason it doesn't deserve a DD. Another thing that irks me is that I did honestly see more deserving pictures on the front page when I logged on ( I only just found I can suggest DD's O_O).
And I have to oppose your praise on principal. The model is just slightly pouting with fake blood on his lips. The lighting and tones aren't natural, it even says that it's been brushed and processed. I just think it got through for the wrong reasons =[

Although, I am not a fan of this photograph, I think it's pretty unfair to say that the newer generations have destroyed vampires. I think the purpose of being an artist is to break molds and recreate things in our own image and this is all the author of Twilight and so many other modern vamp novels have done. I am not entirely sure what was the intention of the photographer of this image since he doesn't have any personal description but I assumed it was some sort of cosplay or maybe his rendition of Edward Cullen. However, the photographer did categorize this image under Glamour Portraits, which would explain the studio lighting, processing and everything else except but the poor attempt of photoshopping the fake blood. That being said, I believe the image deserves a DD for the category.

But they didn't recreate anything with the twilight novels, they took the existing lore and mutilated it =[ Vampires (according to the original lore) don't sparkle, their flesh peels before turning to ash. They can't cross water, nor do they have super strength. The illusion of their strength was an extension of their speed and dexterity. So I personally don't think they recreated anything, they just took what most people think is true, and made it popular by putting a quasi pretty face on it, I find it kinda disappointing =[
But yes, it is in the correct galleries, and the normal conventions of glamour photography (like you mentioned) do apply. So that is all well and good, but you must admit, there are far more deserving pieces uploaded every couple of minutes. But if you look at the comments, how many of them are related to, or mention Twilight? I think this picture should have been left out of the DD section because the fame of Twilight would have brought it to enough peoples eyes without needing to give it a spot that could have went to something more deserving. Of course this is just my opinion, and I would like to thank everyone who has replied for staying calm and not thinking I'm just hating for the sake of it. =]

But that's the beauty of art, we as artists are allowed or rather given the choice to redefine the original through recreating and rendering. Otherwise, art would be one dimensional. Keep in mind no piece of art is universally appealing. Nevertheless, we should respect the artist and their art.
It is possible that there are better portraits under this category but the moderator didn't see them, weren't suggested him/her or they weren't as appealing as this one was. Whether, the artist of this photograph intentionally/unintentionally did use the fame of twilight we do not know. And if he did, I'd say he was smart to do so because he got himself a DD and our attention.
