She was more creepy than Pinkamena. It might be because Pinkie Pie already seems a little unstable, so her going insane isn't too jarring. On the other hand, Twilight is one of the most stable and level-headed pony of the mane six. Seeing her descend to such a level of madness is rather jarring. It's also the facial expressions she had and the way she acted towards the CMC...

Just realized why I love this series so much!
Have any of you ever seen the show Pushing Daisies? It's set in a vaguely contemporary fairy-tale-esque town in the U.S., with lots of singing, and sunshine and happiness and adorable characters. The main character makes pies and his girlfriend makes honey. It would be fairly sickly sweet but...
The main character ALSO has the power to touch something dead to bring it back to life. If he touches something dead twice, it stays dead forever. If something he brought back stays alive longer than a minute, something(s) of equivalent size that's nearby dies instead. With this power, he, his girlfriend (who is someone he resurrected), and his friend Emerson Cod (a private detective) solve mysteries involving murders, some of which are really gruesome.
My point is, the clever blend of sweet and terrible actually made for a balanced and fun show. By going to the extremes with both, it managed to create a new middle ground that was interesting to watch. MLP: FIM is, oddly enough, kinda similar in that respect. If you took a serious or even semi-serious show and had the main characters go as insane as the characters in THIS show occasionally do, it would be very distressing. But the extreme insanity mixed with the overly cute style helps it reach that special middle-ground again. It's also notable to see the threats the main characters have to deal with. Yes there are the expected and still entertaining regular conflicts they have to deal with, but they also have to deal with the aforementioned insanity and threats that in retrospect are genuinely scary monsters. Examples include the dragon (you know why it's scary), the cockatrice (Twilight could have been frozen forever, ditto Fluttershy), the manticore, Discord (who has all the power of Q and all the morals of the Borg), and of course Trollestia.
The blend of too mature and too cute once again creates a show that is interesting to watch. Not to mention that it's well written with well-developed characters who you can genuinely care for as opposed to thinking "Oh god, not another overly cutesy pony obsessed with fashion stuff." While some of that is retained, the show takes great lengths to try and develop it more. Rarity is indeed obsessed with fashion, but she's a fashion designer. That's literally her job, and it occasionally is hard work on her (presented in a manner where anybody can honestly see and agree that it's bloody hard work). Pinkie Pie is obsessed with cupcakes and parties, but she's also more than a bit out there. She's far from the norm. Fluttershy sings to the animals and is very sweet but has poor social skills and is also considered a bit unusual, whilst Rainbow Dash is somehow actually cool. Applejack is shown as genuinely hardworking with a full-time job and the need to ignore lots of cutesy stuff in order to get her farm working (presented as realistically as a farm can in such an adorable environment). Lastly, Twilight Sparkle came from a castle far away and was taught by a princess. This naturally means that she has vast organizational skills and OCD (which is what led to her crazy episode in the first place) that befits someone who was taught by the governing body of an entire nation who thus must in fact have great organizational skills and a strong intellect, as opposed to the Disney princess conception of lots of dancing and balls and parties. Heck, Celestia has herself stated that she hates the annual gala celebration.
Mixed in with clever references to other adult themes, it truly is an interesting and brilliant show.

Well, Pinkie Pie began to see things. But we KNEW she was kinda nuts. Twilight, on the other hand, was usually a bastion of sanity so seeing her go crazy was more out-of-place. Plus, she went COMPLETELY insane.

Twilight freaked me out in this episode, and I loved every second of it. Not only that, but in my mind she actually made the Cheshire Cat from American Mcgee's Alice look totally sane by comparison.
And Pinkie's face here is pretty much my face at every crazy face Twilight made. Awesome.

Okay, I don't get the impression that extreme crazy Twilight would be a serial killer like extreme crazy Pinkie. She seems more like she'd be an almost mindless living weapon, more like a force of nature than someone with her own thoughts and feelings, only to be released into the world when all other options have been exhausted and shit could not possibly get any worse.
Sorta like Alucard.

My guess is that at some point in Season Two Ditzy will shake her head in disgust at the antics of the featured players and look right at the camera and ask why she's being singled out as the biggest freak in a town loaded with goofolas like Pedolight Psycho, Pinkamena and the rest of the loons when all that's wrong with her is that she's kind of a klutz and has funny eyes; this will, of course, be a prelude to her making the sort of commentary about the Mane Six that Klinger did about the 4077 when he wrote home to his Uncle Abdul: "In this town, you have to stand in line to be crazy."
