Description Felicity waits a little while after Wilberforce has finished his meal before picking up his leash and shaking it at him.

Immediately, the little puppy begins panting excitedly and then starts scampering around Felicity's feet, circling round and round, getting more worked up each time he sees the leash.

"I think you're definitely ready for a walk, Wilber!" she says and bends down to attach the leash to his collar. "Going out with Wilber, Mam!" she shouts through to her mother and leaves the house with Wilberforce trotting merrily alongside her.

She walks the same route she took Wilberforce on the past dozen or so times she has walked him already but he still finds more new things to fascinate him. Felicity cannot help smiling as she watches his head dart in all directions as novel sights, sounds, and smells grab his attention. She has an extendable leash but keeps him close to her as the route they are taking is mainly all pathways next to roads. She really should be taking him to a park or a large field to let him run further but her mind is not 100% on this task so she reverts to a route she is familiar with. The other thing that is occupying her concentration is what her new school will be like when she starts tomorrow.

Since it is not the very start of a new term, most of the other girls in her class will already be used to the routine of the school day: which classrooms to go to, how to get there, which teachers are strict and which allow a degree of freedom, and everything else that a new-starter needs to learn. She hopes she can find at least one person who will show her around for the first few weeks, and possibly be good friends going on from there. Felicity has never had problems making friends so she feels confident she will find someone. But who will that someone be?

She has heard from her mother---also a St Tibb's girl several decades ago---that some of the richer and more stuck-up girls are to be avoided, being too spoilt and uppity to be worth befriending because of all the drama and trouble they will bring with them, and so Felicity wonders how many of that type she will encounter. And how can she tell who is worth befriending from the start? Her mother has reassured her that most pupils at the school, when she was there, were amazing and a decent sort, and Felicity will be almost guaranteed to meet at least one girl whom she will remain friends with for a lot longer than just her school years. 'Aunt' Jill is one such example, a friend of the family who Felicity actually believed was a real aunt to her until only a few years ago and whom her mother had befriended in her first year at St Tibb's.

She suddenly becomes aware that she is turning left into her own street, that Wilberforce has led her back home and she has merely followed along while deep in thought. "Oh, we're back home, Wilber!" she says as she spots her dad unloading groceries from the car a few houses further down the street. "It doesn't feel like we walked nearly as far as we did this morning but I guess we must have. Weird," she says mostly to herself as Wilberforce has decided the lamp-post outside of their neighbour's house looks like the best place to relieve himself and is busy doing so after a thorough inspection of the ground around it.

"Finished?" Felicity asks after the young pup has put his leg back down and has started wagging his tail again. "Come on, let's get back home!" she says, and decides the distance to their front door, which her father has left open, is short enough to allow Wilberforce off his leash to dash unrestrained back to the house. She presses the release button and the leash disconnects from the collar. Feeling free, Wilberforce barks excitedly and sprints towards home. Felicity watches him to ensure he gets inside safely and follows along, winding up the leash as she goes.

(Felicity Byron, without being accompanied by her puppy, will be starting at St Tibb's High School in Holly and Claire's class when the Long Weekend series reaches Monday morning. She isn't officially part of the Kate's Exciting Life canon quite yet so enjoy the colour until she does!

And for anyone not in the UK and/or too young to be around at the time, the title is a reference to Barbara Woodhouse , who became quite a household name in the early 80s because of her appearances on UK television in connection with training dogs, and whose popular catchphrase was "Walkies!")
