Description No man wishes for a giant Gobifish to descend from space and crush his home.

And Mudara is not a No man.

Mudara is a kemonomimi that lives by himself on a tiny planet. The Gobifish is an interstellar fish that swims through vaccuum and in general does nothing at all. Nothing. What will you do, Mudara?

Well, I've been drawing a lot of girls recently, and felt I should feed the deprived fangirls a bishounen or something. Well, have at it.

In this piece I tried to be more reserved with cell-shading, after watching a movie and realizing there was actually NO SHADING AT ALL (and yet it managed to retain its quality feel), so this is kind of an experiment. The background also took a lot more time since I wanted to make it look more painted and less..."animated." Sadly, the house has a lot of little cracks and stuff that you can't see because I forgot I was working under high zoom.

But the trees were really fun. Really. They know the best games.

Made in Flash

EDIT: In response to some recurring comments:
1) The cracks you see on the house are actually just the dark green algae that fills in some of them.
2) Mudura's ears and tail are of the canine variety.
3) The movie was one of the One Piece ones. Peace.
4) No.

Kemonomimi is a fun word... *begins chanting it under breath* "~~~~..." ^^

You always do such good work and leave the best stories to back all of your pictures up, I never miss your nifty stuff. >< It's always so nicely-done and fantastic! I wish I had the flash program, so I could draw nifty stuff too... Oh well, I'd probably screw something up somehow. -_-

And for what it's worth, I, too, have forgotten that I'm drawing something on the nearest setting for a computerized art program. ><;;

The gobfish has funny eyes.

XD I didn't know that one of the One Piece movies had no shading.... strange.
Coincidently, I noticed yesterday that there's no shading for alot of american cartoons. lol

I noticed the change of shading style in the background, and I must say I was really impressed by the way you did the house <3
The detail is awesome! And you managed to imitate the regular texture tools that other people use on bitmap editors =O! In Flash! Somehow xD
(Uh, talking about the tin roof here)
I was also impressed at how you made the house have depth with minimal shading

Love your giant Gobifish.

Oh, thanks. XD

In case you're wondering why I wanted to know (and if you're not, sorry for being annoying ) I have a character called Rein, who has silver/white hair, and I can't seem to find the right colors on Paint.... It's my only art program, and I... (I'll leave it at) can't color well without it.

Thank you for your time.

I love the angle; keeping the background and fish a bit darker makes the character really stand out as well. I also like the thin, pencil like outlines and shading on Mudara. Nice work; it looks like a screencap!

Curious

How did you draw those trees because they look like they were taken from a picture that was brutally murdered by the trace bitmap function

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JohnSu In reply to mightybearrr [2007-06-18 05:28:06 +0000 UTC]

Well, firstly I'd like to know: is this a challenge of my authenticity, or just an innocent question that acquired this doubtful flavor by mistake? The reason I ask is because the tone of my response will depend on your answer, and I don't want to get all indignant just because I thought I heard something that wasn't there.

mightybearrr In reply to JohnSu [2007-06-18 17:40:41 +0000 UTC]

Not trying to impose, just asking a question. Sorry if I came off in a rude way.

JohnSu In reply to mightybearrr [2007-06-18 23:07:52 +0000 UTC]

Ah, okay then. Anyhow, to answer your question:

I drew a couple of blobs for the general shape and then used the brush tool coupled with pressure sensitivity to add branching leaves as little strokes around the edges. I then repeated it a second time for the darker leaves just under it (with the trunks placed in between). Then I repeated it a third time for the highlights, though directly on top of the first layer. Next I zoomed out and applied a light alpha shadow and light across the whole thing, which you can see by the faded shapes that seem to cross the base and highlights. The yellowier looking specks were added last for the shiny leaves. Everything was done with the bucket and brush tool.
