Description Well, seeing as this new Chinese year is my year , I suppose I should at least do something mouse related.

I admit I was also tempted to have a mouse with blue teeth and a laser gun running through the background, but that would have crowded the picture.

Maybe in another dozen years.

EDIT: A number of you are attempting to correct me by saying it's the "Year of the Rat" and not the "Year of the Mouse." But technically, "ιΌ  εΉ΄" ought to translate to "Year of the Rodent," as there is no distinction between rats and mice in Chinese. In this context, one can use rat and mouse interchangeably.

omg, I love this XD

I'm actually saving money to get a pair of rats in the future, and if they're male, well.... to make it easier on me and them, you know what'll have to happen. So yeah, this drawing is perfect x'D

I also love your style. <3

I have two males and made the decision to leave them intact, my sister jokingly called them Ballsy and Testy when their names were being decided. Do you have a preference of gender? Male rats tend to be more lazy and cuddly than females, females are super high energy and playful.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AGenderSelf In reply to Catsaremusic [2017-10-14 21:46:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's why I want males. I'm pretty sickly and don't have much energy for playing anymore (which is why I feel kind of sad about my dog and bird and I spend most of my days just cuddling them), so I'm looking for more of a "laze around and cuddle and learn cute tricks" kinda pet than "full of energy let's play and run around" sort of pet. I like to picture me with Eos and Nyx (my chosen names for my future two) sitting by their cage in a rat pile snuggle. ^w^

Catsaremusic In reply to AGenderSelf [2017-10-14 22:24:21 +0000 UTC]

Awesome names! Yeah, males are still semi-playful but they're definitely much less energy than females, I have quite a few health hold ups myself which was one of the main reasons I chose males.

Thanks! I have a large interest in Greek mythology, and those are names for moon and sun figures respectively. And yeah, that's what I've read in my research. Not extensive research because I don't plan to get them for a while, but yeah. Thanks for talking with me about rats, by the way. I don't really know anyone with interest in them like me. ^-^"

Thats all!

AGenderSelf In reply to Lullivy [2017-10-16 17:25:47 +0000 UTC]

I said they were "sun and moon *figures* respectively." I know who they are. Nyx is the personification and figure of night. The same for Eos except dawn/day. I'm extremely into Greek and Roman history and mythology, so believe me when I say I know what I'm talking about (at least as good as someone with physical memory deficiencies can anyway).

Thanks though. And sorry if this sounds rude, I really don't mean for it to be. I'm running low on sleep and energy right now.

Oh, cool! I literally took a class Senior year in Latin just to get free knowledge on Greek and Roman stuff. xD And yeah, I hear they're really awesome. I can't wait to have my own adorable pair. <3

Catsaremusic In reply to AGenderSelf [2017-10-15 19:04:47 +0000 UTC]

That's really neat, actually might take Latin myself now, haha. You'll love them for sure! I love my boys so much. I actually at first was going to name them Ryuu and Kierr but when I got them it didn't stick, so named them Pyp and Finn. The best place to get them is from a breeder, that way you know what you're getting and you can also pick the breed. My boys are brothers but one is a siamese standard coated dumbo and his brother is an American blue rex coated dumbo. Idk if you've looked into the different coat types? Rex rats have varying degrees of curly fur and the thing I love the most with them is they have curled whiskers as well.Β Β

AGenderSelf In reply to Catsaremusic [2017-10-15 20:02:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh, that's really cool! I love dumbos and siamese colors. I didn't know they came in siamese colors! And yeah, I was kinda on the fence about where to get them because I didn't think there were breeders around me and I'm really not comfortable shipping them since I worked as a FedEx customer service representative and I know what... happens sometimes. But, despite how cute they are and despite one of the best pets I've ever had being a green cheeked conure from there, I really don't want to get rats from PetCo or PetSmart. I had a guinea pig named Cookie (his colors literally looked like a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie and it was adorable) a few years ago and he got deliriously sick and passed away despite how well I took care of him. And PetCo... well, I was there with my fiancΓ© one day just to look at their cute rats and mice and during, one lady came in and started pulling out the mice by their tails and putting them in a box. My fiancΓ© and I were shocked and disturbed and we said "Aren't these pet mice?" and she said "Yeah, but they're also feeders."

That's.... really not right,Β y'know? Sorry if I upset you a bit, but I like to let people know things like this wherever I can. It's not like every pet you get from them are sickly and mistreated everywhere you go, but the chances are not good. I strongly believe if you want to consider something a pet animal, I don't care what it is; you need to treat it just like you would a pet dog or cat. All your love, all your attention, and making sure they have everything they need to live happily and healthy. Anyway, yeah. I haven't looked into breeds or variations much, but I really like dumbos the best and I also like more... cinnamon-yΒ light brown colors and hooded ones and even furless ones. I just think they're so adorable. <3

Catsaremusic In reply to AGenderSelf [2017-10-15 23:44:09 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the first rats I had were from PetSmart I believe and my sister works there so she's told me all the mistreatment that goes on there. I've also witnessed a worker pick up a non-feeder rat by the tail and she couldn't care less. Breeders are definitely the way to go, they can be difficult to find but sometimes a drive to pick up the ratties is worth it, the breeder I went through ended up not being as good as she claimed so doing research is always important, she kind of went off the grid which was shady imo. Yeah, I love all the color variations, siamese point is my favorite, I have pictures of my rats on my page if you're interested in what that looks like, some siamese points though are even more pronounced with markings than my Finn, and he has the red eyes, some people prefer black eyes. I totally agree with you on the front about animal care, some people just think the animal is cute and they don't really research the work that goes into the care and then the animal ends up neglected. I volunteer at two different conservation areas so I'm very opinionated when it comes to caring for animals.Β Β

Yeah, that sucks.... but I'm glad you value their treatment as much as I do. ;w; I'll definitely take a look at your little cuties later when I have the time! I'll be doing more research to find breeders in my general area, as well. <3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Catsaremusic In reply to AGenderSelf [2017-10-16 00:17:36 +0000 UTC]

Definitely, they're my boys so I do my best to care for them . Oh, another thing about the siamese points is they start out tan or white when they're young, Finn is about 6 months old now so he has his colorization, but he at first was a light tan with a white mark on his head and muzzle, no brown anywhere.Β

AGenderSelf In reply to Catsaremusic [2017-10-16 00:21:16 +0000 UTC]

Aaah, okay. That's cool. I already know that I want Eos to be lighter so he'll probably be siamese if I can find one, and I want Nyx to be darker. Probably a white and black hooded rat, maybe. These are just general ideas to start with, obviously, I'm completely open to changing for what breeders and lines are available to me. They're just guidelines for a best-case scenario of what I really want. ^-^"
