Hi there, I'm here to bring you a bit of Critique cheer on behalf of the Critmas 2018 team.

I hope you don't mind me critiquing this piece. I'm aware it's a personal subject for you and I promise I shall be delicate with my approach.

As someone who has had a friend with depression, this piece really resonates with me. You've captured that overwhelming sense of being trapped and crushed under the weight of your own sadness, and the way the mushrooms are growing upwards is as if they're feeding off the sorrow. The glass acts as a trap, stopping you from escaping your fate, yet I also see hope in the light on the floor. It hums and sings, drawing the viewer in and bringing warmth along with it.

It works because that's the way life is. No matter how hard something may be, how hopeless and full of darkness, there is always a light there - a hope amongst the shadow.  You capture this all perfectly in your art and I'm in awe of how well you can convey a feeling in just one piece. I'm seriously impressed and quite frankly, amazed this work hasn't got more attention. Too many people shy away from the subject of depression, often thinking someone will just get over it, but it's not like that at all. It's a serious subject and I'm glad you're not only expressing yourself and getting your feelings out, but you're helping to bring the subject to everyone's attention. That my dear is a commendable effort!

If I were to offer some feedback on this piece, from an observers perspective, it would be to perhaps add some grain to the wood of the table. You could use it to convey the metaphor of life's endless choices, and how they can affect a person. I mean, what are we, but the sum of our own experiences?

All in all, a fantastic piece that deserves a lot of recognition. Thank you for creating and sharing it with us!

All the best,

Meterious

P.S  I hope you have a fantastic Christmas and that this critique is at least somewhat useful. Hang in there!
