The birth of Cassidy and Michelle Jones was a most unusual birth for more than one reason. While both mixed twins(in which each twin was a different race) and conjoined twins were unusual occurrences in their own rights, there had never before been a case of conjoined twins of different races. However, the fact that Cassidy is black and Michelle is white isn't the only unusual thing about these twins. Born to a Jamaican father and an Irish Canadian mother, they were born in their mother's hometown of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Despite the unusual circumstances of their birth(never before had mixed twins been born conjoined), their parents had opted for surgical separation, and the twins went under the knife soon after their 2nd birthday. However, the surgery did not go as planned. As the lead surgeon made the initial incision, he found as his scalpel cut across their flesh, the flesh would instantaneously heal itself. After several unsuccessful attempts at separation(their bodies instantaneously healing the scars caused by the scalpel), the surgical team determined their bodies would resist any attempt at separation, and their parents soon accepted the fact their daughters were meant to go through life joined to one another. The family soon moved from Moose Jaw to Saskatoon, where the next unusual thing in the twins' life occurred. In the summer of 1985, the twins were on a family vacation in Southern California. On one clear sunny day, the twins and their parents went to Newport Beach, and the twins had worn matching strapless bikinis, in order to get suntans. As they lay out in the sun and swam in the Pacific Ocean, the effect of the sun's rays hitting their skin had an unexpected effect. After a while, they noticed their hands were glowing with energy, and instinctively shot blasts harmlessly into the water. They soon learned they had the ability to absorb sunlight and transform it into energy, and soon learned that along with firing blasts of energy from their hands, they could also use the energy absorbed to fly. Once back in Saskatoon, they trained for several years, to hone their powers, as well as increase their agility, and studied martial arts, so as not to fully depend on their powers.When they felt they were ready, they designed costumes, using a red and white color scheme due to the fact those were the colors of the Canadian flag. The fact that the top of their costume has a strapless neckline was done as much for function as fashion, as the twins use their bare shoulders as solar panels, collecting the sunlight they transform into energy. One side effect of their powers is it slows down their aging process. Even though they appear to be in their early 20s, the twins are actually in their mid 40s.

After spending several years defending their hometown of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, they encountered Gemini Force, a team of superheroes which consisted solely of twin heroes, and soon joined the team, quickly achieving the rank of field commander.
