Thank you - I have a bunch to process, just running on empty at the moment and need my second wind.

Thanks - any ideas on how I might increase exposure?Β I only belong to two texture groups, but also a bunch of stock groups.Β I admit to being slack in terms of submitting them.

I increased my exposure due to continuity... I've been uploading a texture every single day for almost a year, just this month I started to sometimes take a day off. Features of other stock artists sometimes helps, groups of course... but the most important thing is continuity if you ask me.Β

Ps. Only been in stock since late August, and only moved into textures in October.Β Still learning as I go.Β I know you can reserve some stock and textures as premium material, charging a nominal fee.Β Not done that yet, but may do in the future, once I have a good handle on what really is premium before I post it.Β Would be nice to get a little recompense for the time spent.

mercurycode In reply to jojo22 [2014-02-06 11:18:07 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, same here. I thought about having a good 500 textures online for free, before I'll start selling premium content. I don't really know how to manage that yet, and before I do, I won't act on it. Sirius-sdz Β is my role model redgarding the selling of premium content... I might do it in a similar way as he does, mixing up free stuff with premium stuff, not being exclusive in one or the other way. If I'm not making sense here, that's probably because I am really ill at the moment, so sorry for that
But I agree with you, a little recompense would be wonderful.

Sorry to hear you are not well - touch of flu?Β Hope you feel better soon.Β I'm not doing great at the moment either, primarily because I should have taken a break before Xmas and am now well past due and functioning below 100% as a result.Β
I think I need to clear this weekend just to relax, but already someone is trying to encroach upon it, so I've had to be firm and say no.
Yes, I think I might look at Sirius as an example as well.Β I would definitely continue to provide free material, but it might be something as simple as taking the time to combine best textures into an easy to download zip file and receiving some points from people willing to pay for the convenience factor.

Oh well, just a bronchitis, but a very stubborn one. It refuses to get better, no matter how hard I try to get rid of it. I've tried everything I could for a week now and it hasn't improved a bit.
Ohhhh, then I hope you'll be better, soon, too. If you've missed taking a break, maybe you can make a week very low maintenance? Like take explicit time for yourself, cut off all non-important appointments, just take every moment you have to relax a little. Maybe that would let you gather a little more energy? By reading your next sentence, I see that this is what you've been trying to do anyway, so just keep on doing that and ignore what I said
Yes, sounds like a good concept!Β

Bronchitis is nasty, had it once.Β Everything tasted and smelled weird.Β Sounds like you might have some scarring on the lungs and this is a recurrent problem?Β Do steam inhalations provide some relief?
Welllll, this week was meant to be a low key week, but just had a massive job come in.Β Good money, can't pass it up.Β Did 4 hours yesterday, will do a bunch more today.Β Got other jobs to do this week too, plus a 3 hour meeting to prepare for on Saturday.Β Added to that, my mum is coming up this Friday to stay for the weekend and help me get on top of this place.Β So that means working cleaning and taking stuff to the tip all weekend.Β
No rest for the wicked!Β I must be positively evil!Β Still, getting on top of this place will be good for me mentally.Β You know, tidy house, tidy mind.

Yes, it is. A very stubborn kind of cold. No, I haven't had this in years, don't think it's something recurrent. But I'm feeling much better now, as I've had some great meds to fight it. My mum is a nurse and she sometimes knows the most effective stuff. She's my dealer, haha
Oh wow, that sounds like ... stress. But at least you got some help coming around. I know, I always feel really good after cleaning everything up. Especially because I come from a household in which there was chaos everywhere, almost on a messy-household kinda level, so figuring out how to keep my own stuff organized and clean has become a very important part in my youth and young adulthood. Because nobody told me how to do it and it took me a very long time to figure out a system that works for me.

mercurycode In reply to jojo22 [2014-02-18 16:17:56 +0000 UTC]
Nah, I make a new approach every time. I have several folders with raw photo material and every day I choose one photo to begin with, never the same, and all that's happening is basically a trial and error procedure

Yeah - because people get to recognize you as a source, so decide to watch you.Β I'm slowly building my watchers up - nearly 200, if not reached already.Β Most of those acquired since June, when I really reconnected with dA again after only sporadic visits for many years.
π: 0 β©: 1
mercurycode In reply to jojo22 [2014-02-06 11:14:55 +0000 UTC]
Yes, that's right! Slowly building up watchers is what I'm doing, too. I started off in May 2013 with about 70 watchers I think, I now have over ten times as much. And it keeps getting more if you're actively submitting art.
Congrats on your 200! I remember having 200 watchers and being really excited about it not too long ago, just a few months back

jojo22 In reply to mercurycode [2014-02-06 22:06:18 +0000 UTC]
That's the graft isn't it?Β Just building up followers, who then add your work to their sites, whose friends then see your work, etc.Β It is much more effective than simply submitting to groups, although this does bring returns too.Β Taking time to appreciate the art of others is also important.Β Giving back, etc.
I also am a bit scattered in terms of the art I engage in - textures, traditional stock, traditional art, collage, a bit of assemblage, photography in different genres and writing.Β This helps to start stitching together some of the isolated pockets of activity in dA, helping to integrate the community further.

Sirius sometimes calls it building a "fav army", which has a slight ironic tone to it. It has the advantage of being seen, but sometimes, with other people, it just leads to everything being faved like crazy, no matter if it's a great piece of art or... something like this:Β
The day he uploaded this in resources, of course he got several hundreds of favs, because he has almost 50,000 watchers. Side effect was that with this troll shit he got on the front page and took away the spot from any other serious work that was uploaded that day. Took away the chance of being seen for someone else. I mean, you could've uploaded this into scraps, but not ryky. He has the power, so why not as well (ab-) use it, everything else would be half the fun, right?Β
It all comes with pros and cons :/

jojo22 In reply to mercurycode [2014-02-10 19:26:33 +0000 UTC]
Lol - true!Β I totally would chuck out random funny things if I had that many watchers - I already do inane stuff off the cuff!Β It's good to not take yourself too seriously.
Talking about people who get a lot of watchers - have you seen the work from this guy?

He's only been here 1 month and already has over 700 watchers.Β This guy is going to be huge!

WOW, that's a, how do you say that, a quick rise? High rise?Β I mean, I do understand, he's got some quite remarkable pieces in his gallery. Let him continue that for a year, he will be more famous than I'll be in 10
Oh, don't get me wrong. I love funny things, all for not taking myself too seriously (where's the fun in that ). But doing it in the disfavor of others does feel kind of unfair to me. You can always do funny scraps, right? No need to take away the spot from somebody else.

Wee bit much sun eh?Β I hear there is quite the heatwave going on - saw an image of a possum floating in a pool.Β That was pretty darn cute.Β 'Oh, humans, I should run away.Β Screw it, it's too hot.'Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=isagOqβ¦
Did your daughter help you kit out in some nice new threads?
Meanwhile, things have been a bit shaky back here.Β On Monday, we had a 6.2 earthquake on the other side of the Tararua Ranges to where I am (it was centered near Castlepoint, Masterton).Β I was sitting in my sunroom at the time and just knew it was going to be a big one, so ran outside and called to Jaz to come out too.Β So I'm there, hugging her, and the power lines are rocking back and forth like crazy - I thought they were going to come down.Β You are there trying to judge if you would be clear of them if they did.Β Shakes you up a bit.
Quite different from the ones we had in the cook strait in August last year.Β They were big too, but they made everything wobble like jelly, instead of shake.

Well - look on the bright side - if you like oysters you can take a knife with ya and chow down.Β Personally, you'd have to hold me down and force me to get one of those suckers down my oesophagus.
I had a nice snorkel off Rottnest Island once.Β Then years later some poor sod got killed by a shark there.Β Emphasis on the 'once'.Β
You should have been in NZ - the earthquake was way more exciting.
