Normally, I donβt weigh in on these things, mainly because the world we live in genuinely doesnβt seem to care, but there are times when the commentary prompts a response. Your comment is one of those times.
First off, JollyJack is from (England/Great Britain, which ever name theyβre using) and as I have observed in his comics and things, is possessed of the dry British Humor. He is not being insensitive, he is simply expressing his disgust in a manner that makes sense to him. Hollywood turns tragic events into blockbuster movies and news reporters hound the victims families because βthe world NEEDS to know.β He actually discontinued this girl for a while because people were becoming insensitive in their votes of where and how many would be hit next.
Secondly, speaking about Gun Control as if it would have NO EFFECT is idiotic. People will continue to find ways to kill other people (itβs kinda what people do) but limiting access to guns would at least make it more difficult for the people that shouldnβt have them in the first place from getting their hands on them. Colorado was a twenty-two year old that got their hands on an Assault Rifle. The Dark Knight screening shooter had a collection of weapons that was down-right unsettling to hear about, and are you really going to suggest that Gun Control would have had no noticeable effect on the school shootings that have happened?
Violence is human nature (I hated even having to type that, but it is the truth.) So, every point you made on the violence that will happen, will most likely happen. But this is not Gun Removal, it is not Gun Repossession, it is not βGive The Govt. All Your Gunsβ It is Controlling the ease of access to those Guns. It is being a little more careful. It is putting a lock on your safe so that your child, who does not fully comprehend the inherent power and danger held within that weapon, does not get ahold of it and make a fatal mistake.
So please, donβt downplay the violence behind this picture because of all the other violence in the world. We have to try and find solutions to the problems, not get lost in how many problems there are, because there are a lot of them. And please, try... just try... to turn your focus to what we can do to help, to stop things like this from happening again. I am already tired of living in a world where a school, a theater, a grocery store, or a damn street corner arenβt safe. Where a conversation in a Dollar Tree informs me of a shooting at a strip mall not a mile from where I am.
I am tired of fear... I want hope back.
