Just like Scarlet to create a giant mech to trim the tree.

That's Scarlet for you! Don't do anything if you don't do it massively over-engineered!

Only Scarlet would make such a monstrous thing to accomplish such a minor task.

Not quite: In the 1960's, US astronauts discovered their ball-point pens wouldn't work in space, so NASA spent a ton of money on a zero-g pen. The Soviets had the same problem; they gave their cosmonauts pencils. (It's an old story, and I think it's true.)

Also not quite, but interesting to see that this urban legend is still going around. --> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Peβ¦
Short version, they were asked by the company to test them and then bought 400 "space pens" for 6$ the piece.

Yeah, I thought the story was too good to be true. Considering some of the incredibly overpriced things the US government has bought over the years, the story could well have been true.
I can see how the story got things backwards.
Four hundred of those pens would have cost $2400 at a time when you could have bought 400 regular ball point pens for $50-$60.
Thanks for the info. (Hoping you've been having - and will continue to have - a great holiday season.)

It's nice seeing Scarlet. It feels like it's been a very long time.

A truly impressive device would be the picker-upper.
