Description
Personal communits or communicators have been available for centuries, and today's models are very sophisticated and versatile pieces of technology. They can be any shape, any size although a nominal approach is often taken in regards to portability with the device being designed to fit snugly in a pocket, pouch or holster. The example shown here is the Abstract B77 Communit, an inexpensive model that retails for about forty credits. It's casing is essentially memory metal and has an embedded visual display unit and holoemitters. The unit is shown on the left in its stowed format - essentially folding flat, it weighs less than seven grams. It features two optical pickups, on the front and back. Audio pickups and speaker units are constructed into the casing, as are four high fidelity holographic assemblies. The device is encoded to the DNA of the user and requires fresh DNA every time it is voice command activated - with the fresh sample being compared to the sample on file, and if it does not match, the unit won't work.
It's exterior and interior are manufactured as one piece so there are no moving or serviceable parts. It's screen can be used to display the image of the person being communicated with or any other form of data. If necessary, both the screen and the holoemitters can be active at once without any significant drain on the power cell which is self-charging and when low on power draws it from any nearby power source via signal translation. It can survive in fluid masses, including acid (for limited durations, typically five to ten minutes). Has an effective crush depth of three kilometers in oceans.
It can be used in any environment where there is atmosphere to provide voice transmission. Although it is unlikely that anyone would wish to deliberately park a vehicle on top of it, it can in either closed or open mode survive six to seven metric tons of weight. Every communications device is unique. It has a unique bioelectrical signal matrix and this is encoded with the D.N.A. signature of its user which is also mathematically calculated into a long-string number sequence that acts as the unique 'caller identification'. It is for this reason that a person can 'chirp' another person anywhere in the galaxy, assuming that they have an active signal source to piggyback the transmission on.
