It was a eureka moment pushing into visual abstraction even further.

Previously a bright painting, this relic-like work referencing old weathered walls and how Rome has been in a state of cyclical flux through history with social transformations, good periods, bad periods, societies decaying, new ones born etc. Covid lockdowns deeply affected my art -making me think how fragile society is and could collapse. It made me think how places are in a state of flux throughout history, and Rome was hit by a series of social transformations seeing the rise and fall of the empire, plagues, poverty, then society healed itself, then went to war etc and carried on in this cyclical way.
