Time for a lesson about Equestria!

Zecora will be our Zebra subject. Zebras are equines, almost exclusively from Africa. That means that in Equestria, Zebras are no different from normal ponies, save for superficial features such as skin color (like how White people and Black people are essentially the same except for their skin color).

Gilda will be our Gryphon subject. Gryphons are traditionally half lion half eagle. In Equestria, they have somewhat similar body structures to other ponies, so their human counterpart isn’t too far off from other human forms. Their ears are much smaller than normal ears (ever seen bird ears?), and their most distinguishing feature is that instead of keratin growing out of their hair follicles, they have feathers where hair would be. So Gilda’s “hair” is actually feathers. Of course Gryphons can also fly, and can Spread their wings similar to Pegasi.

Chief Thunderhooves and Little Strongheart will be our bison/buffalo examples. They are actually part of the Bison genus (at least, the type of buffalo that Thunderhooves and Strongheart are). Like Pinkie states, they’re also creatures with four hooves and similar diets. Physiologically “human” Bison would have naturally larger muscles and body structures. Their “culture” is very much Native American Indian, which gives them their darker and more worn out skin.

Queen Chrysalis will be the Changeling example. Changelings are traditionally depicted as humanoid demons with grey skin who switch their children for human children (that’s pretty terrifying). Chrysalis is no different, sporting a pale grey skin and unkempt split hair. Her ears are similar to Alicorn ears, but are writhe with holes and parts that appear to be cut out. Her Changeling underlings would look similar, with smaller ears and a more gnome-like stature at standing.

Discord is the one and only Draconequus known in Equestria. Cheerilee describes it as a creature with the head of a pony and a body made of all sorts of other creatures. His human form is all human, his hands and other body parts are normal, with small differences like talons as nails on one hand and claws for nails on the other. He wears a mask inspired by Japanese Oni demon masks, and decorated to look like his “pony” form. He’s drawn in the likeness of John de Lancie, the voice actor for Discord.

Cranky Doodle and Matilda will be our Donkey examples. Donkeys are also equines, so they are not very different from other earth ponies. Their arms and legs are skinnier than other earth ponies, and their ears are a little bigger, but otherwise they aren’t any different from their follow ponies. If a donkey and a pony were to mate and reproduce, they would create a mule, which would look a lot closer to a pony because of inherited traits from a pony parent. A sad fate befalls male mules though, as they are incapable of reproduction.

Dragons are so various it would be hard to generalize what a human dragon would look like. Here is Spike [link] , whose ears look like they do in the show. Other dragons like Garble or the giant dragon from Dragonshy would have their respective ears in their human forms as well, so you can imagine that easily enough.

Cows, like buffalo, are also creatures with four hooves, so they would essentially look like earth ponies as well. Their main different would be in their physiology (not unlike buffalo). Female bovine would have naturally larger breasts for obvious reasons, and bulls/oxen would have huge pecs and torsos, like a body builder.

The Diamond Dogs is tough to figure out, so I didn’t really draw it. They’re earth creatures. In the show they’re the equivalent of thugs. In reality domestic dogs are huge in variety, and generalizing them would be difficult as well. Just imagine a biker gang member when you imagine a “human” Diamond Dog.

Something like Iron Will, and Minotaur, would also be difficult, because traditionally a Minotaur is a “human with the head of a bull”. If we go by the bovine humanization idea, it Iron Will would basically just look like a really buff human, but like a really healthy well toned human. Steven Magnet (the serpent from Episode 2) also falls under this single known creature for his race. He is a sea creature, so he would have ears like his serpent form, and basically be a mer-human.

That should cover just about every creature in Equestria that can be communicated with or at least display similar intelligence to ponies. Other things like Parasprites or Phoenixes would like like their real world counter parts (a fairy Tribble and a bird respectively). Feel free to ask anything else regarding my particular fanon for Equestria.
