Description
First sub from Rome and one of the very few Panoramas I took.My girl and I took a tour around the Colosseum and the fee included a visit to the Palatino and the Roman Forum you see below and shot from what I believe is Palatine Hill
One of my fav times in Rome, was awesome to walk around and see so much History surrounding you in all directions.
Far right you`ll see the Colosseum and on the far left Il Vittoriale (Big white build sometimes referred to as the wedding cake).
I really wanted to take some good shots of it but it was riddled with scaffolding at the time
The guards there made me laugh too,if anyone got sore tootsies and fancied a sit down, they started whistling like canaries on heat at you
Thank you for looking and I left the res fairly big so you can enjoy the view hopefully as much as I did

Rome
The Roman Forum (Latin: Forum Romanum), sometimes known by its original Latin name, is located between the Palatine hill and the Capitoline hill of the city of Rome. It is the central area around which the ancient Roman civilization developed. Citizens referred to the location as the "Forum Magnum" or just the "Forum".

I was hoping you'd take a panorama
Looks like I got my wish
An excellent view--since this is the only way I will ever see Rome, I prefer to see it through your lens my friend
Excellent detail and thanks for filling us in on some of the sights seen here. I had no idea there was so many ruins around the Colosseum like those seen in the foreground--for some reason I thought that modern Rome had grown up around it Shows just exactly what I know--nuttin'
Wonderful color and the clouds are amazing. A perfect day to see the sights
Thanks for sharing my friend

Thank you John,I never realised that myself either and trust me,there`s a helluva more that`s behind me too
I regret not doing more pannys there now but I was conservative as I shot mostly in Raw and Jpg and knew my memory card would top out as it did on the 4th evening so I had to buy another 1gb the next day,but that`s cool as I needed a backup anyway

You're welcome brother
What type of memory card does your 40D take exactly and how many GB's?

JonnyGoodboy In reply to Corvidae65 [2009-07-10 14:43:28 +0000 UTC]
Compact Flash and I got a 4gb which is actually a lying bitch and only takes 3.7 or thereabouts

Dear Jonathan...
You know I am a fan of yours and that I normally like your works a lot...
However, this is not the case here... I was absolutely mesmerized by the view (scared you ?? ) !!!
This is by far one of your best ones. The composition is stunning and I can't stop looking at it over and over again.
I couldn't find if you got a DD before, but I've sent a suggestion (I normally keep forgetting that the option exists, but here the idea just jumped into my mind).
I hope many more of your friends do the same, because this deserves far more attention and it would be nice for the deviants all around DA to be made aware of this photo.
Congratulations for having been able to capture this sight so beautifully. You are extremely talented and it shows shot after shot, day after day...
I am very happy to be watching you !!!!

My son loved this shot (so did I) he wants to learn to shoot like this. I told him I can't help cause I have no idea how to...What kind of lens, or PS work you might do.
Wish I could send him to you.

JonnyGoodboy In reply to KarenFiore [2009-07-08 11:40:21 +0000 UTC]
Thank you to you and my fellow Jonathan Teach
This is shot handheld with my 10mm wide angle,4 shots and you need to overlap by approx 2/3rds on each photo.
Architecture I find is notoriously difficult to stitch correctly when using the wide angle, but I overlapped this one perfectly as there are no visible errors at all on the full size image (I was surprised btw )
You can obviously use a more conventional 18mm as I`ve done many times before but you would have to take more shots then of course, perhaps 7 to get this kinda result
The whole thing was stitched in Adobe CS4.
Any other qs just ask me Karen

KarenFiore In reply to JonnyGoodboy [2009-07-08 12:24:30 +0000 UTC]
That is amazing...I would have no clue how to do this stitching kind of thing...I only have the CS2...and I would have to watch someone doe this kind of technique, multiple times in order to understand.
It really is amazing...someday I will have to take a class in PS...I barely understand the basics...
Stunning Jonathan.

Karen m`lovely,it`s nothing technical or daunting,if you do a good enough job during the initial shooting, the program will stitch it perfectly for you,it`s all automatic
There`s a number of panorama progs you can use and I`ve test driven probably 6-7 and I find Photoshop does the best job for me so I`ve stuck with it.
The Photomerge option came in on Version 3 I think and now it`s been enhanced for version 4.
Noting you about something now ok
