Description
4-16-24 (50 years ago today)Its a big day for the Morris County Central Railroad (MCC) to complete its relocation trip to Newfoundland, New Jersey on the Susquehanna Railroad branch.
The two engines which had been in storage through the whole winter were fired up for the final move hauling the entire collection of the MCC railroad equipment.
However there's a complete lack of turning facilities for the locomotives to face forward, so they have to positioned backwards to pull the long train.
Ex-United States Army 0-6-0 no. 4039 takes the head of the train in front while Ex-Southern Railway 2-8-0 number 385 positions midway between as a helper.
At the throttle of the switcher is Engineer Charles Barrett and Fireman Frank Larkin, while the throttle on the Consolidation is being controlled by Engineer
Al Holleuffer and Fireman Steve Hepler.
On the surface, everything seems to be ready for the last movement from Sparta, NJ, but there's trouble right ahead.
