Description
Cold Streets on Hot DaysNorth Philadelphia, PA. USA.
This street in North Philadelphia is known for being the home to many mid-level drug dealers. Selling drugs offers a sizable income which is uniquely welcoming in a part of town with little economic opportunity. These old townhouses use to stand in one of Philadelphia's prominent neighborhoods until ghettoization began forcing ethnic minority groups northward and wealthy whites began to move closer to Center City or the suburbs. Still more valuable than homes in the projects that surround streets like this, despite their dilapidation, these houses are popular to those with higher incomes who still can't afford to move to better parts of the city. Unfortunately, dealing and growing products that aid in numbing reality are two of a very limited number of ways to make a decent living for teens who can't afford an education. This certainly says something more about society at large than it does about the kids that grow up in these conditions.
