Description

The world of Eia drifts between the Night and Day stars, pulled along an ever-fraying strand of time, believed to be constantly wound by the aptly named Timewinder, an entity separate from the deities those on Eia have worshipped.
Along this strand, a rot will occasionally appear and can be spotted on the small threads before it is wound into the others; when this rot reaches the strand's position of the present, any form of cataclysm can occur on the material world of Eia.
Distasters, both natural and supernatural have ravaged the laws of reality on many occasions throughout the ancient history of this world, but most notable are the events known as The Ruin.
The First and Second Ruin have seen the trans-dimensional hivemind known as The Afterkind emerge on Eia from the Lands of Eons Shallow - a vast region of salt flats that surface for a small period, only to submerge beneath the ocean again for thousands of years. When this surfacing begins, it is surely the sign of an incoming Ruin.
The Afterkind manifests as a host of beings whose only purpose is to erase all that exists, not out of malice or prejudice, but instinct. When in great enough number, the Afterkind's effects on reality destroy even the contents of the air itself, suffocating any nearby.
The Timewinder's only counter to this rot is to send beings from the afterlife back into the material world as Starghasts, people with equally dangerous, albeit random, powers, solely to prevent the worst of the Ruin's effects. This tactic is, however, flawed, for the being sent into the material world will often not know the true nature of their existence, and due to the innacuracy of their placement in time, they may never see the Ruin coming.
The Lands of Eons Shallow have recently risen again.
