Description DATE: 14/08/99 TIME: 11 PM LOCATION: Ecuador
ID: 2775 STATEMENT: 1099

A raging wildfire had broken out near the Cayambe Coca Ecological Reserve. We were called in after a rescue helicopter reported seeing a 30ft Black snake amongst the burning trees.

Using satellite thermal imaging we were quick to find the cause of the inferno. It was a Boitata.
We were quick to drive the creature away from any populated areas while the local firefighters tackled the blaze.

Using a combination of fire retardant foam and high-level tranquilizing gas canisters we were able to subdue the creature and move it into a titanium chamber.

It was thought this specimen was disturbed after illegal logging had started in the area. Due to its volatile nature, the snake was moved to a secure location for study.

ASSET ANALYSIS: Boitata
THREAT LEVEL: 4 (DANGEROUS)

Boitata are large fire snakes that live in thermal chambers near volcanic areas, most notably El Reventador and Volcan Sumaco. Generally, these species stay underground, only emerging to hunt and only rarely venturing into the jungle if threatened.

They emit a biochemical substance that can heat up to astonishing temperatures, slowly melting rock and sand that builds up a rocky outer shell. The holes on the shell are where the chemicals are excreted creating the illusion of β€˜eyes’ running down its body. They have two superheated horns on their head that allow them to melt their way through the ground and efficiently burrow into thermal vents.

They have the ability to create large amounts of the chemical from their tail which allows them to flick molten lava at anything they deem a threat.

Due to their aggressive demeanor and superheated bodies, it is advised not to approach and conventional weapons do not work on them.
