„You got it back“, Lilian whispered, watching the pendent Nyx played with between his fingers with astonishment. The blood was still dripping from his knuckles, he hadn’t yet taken care of the open wounds and if Lilian hadn’t been as glad to see him otherwise unharmed she would have scolded him for it. The moonlight filtering through the palace windows glimmered on the cool metal of the pendant, the shadow inside the clear glass sphere quivered excitingly inside it’s cage. It was the last drop that was left of Nyx‘s magic, the remainder of the power he had once held and would now never obtain again, and it belonged to the spouse he had sworn to spend his life with.
„Give it to me“, Lilian said, an amused warm undertone in her sleepy voice. The dread from the night finally falling off her shoulders.
Nyx smiled. „come and get it.“
Lilian reached out, snuggling even closer to his side. With one hand she got hold of his thumb, bending his hand downwards again until she could reach the pendent. Blood dripped onto her hand, still warm and coloring her fingers crimson where she touched him.
The golden string on the necklace had wound around both of their hands and now it was on Lilian to untangle them again while Nyx just laughed at her scrunched up face. She shot him a playfully annoyed glare. „Stop laughing, you idiot.“ But he couldn’t. And she didn’t want him to.
