And today Switzerland just agreed to treaties with Brazil for import and export. I am devastated that I can't do anything (except not eating any meat and not buying products from Brazil) and I am ashamed of my country. I really hope there will be a referendum so they treaties can be stopped. Many people are already acting to initiate an end to them.

Until other countries started threatening Brasil by not buying our stuff, our idiot president was just mocking everyone and avoiding the subject by blaming whatever for the fires.

Now that other countries stood up for this cause, he finally started doing something, first being all grumpy because "there weren't enough unities to send to stop the fire" and then finally sending all the huge amoutg of people he didn't want to send at the beggining for some reason...

Then he started wining on twitter that germany and other governments stopped giving us funds to help keep the amazon alive BECAUSE HE HIMSELF SCOFFED THEM OUT FOR TRYING TO HELP at the beggining of the month and...

Jesus, i'm tired

I just hope Switzerland changes it's mind soon.

Yeah, my friend was glad he ordered the military to stop the fire but we got into a small argument because unlike her I didn't see it as a solution, just a short term reaction by Bolsonaro because of the persecutions Norway, Germany and now France threatened with. I don't think anything will change longterm until there will be a permanent change in the mindset of Brazil's (and other Mercosur states') current and all future governments, as well as for all their trading partners.

The good thing is, since we have a (half-)direct democracy there are several chances to stop it (unlike in other countries where the government acts more independently) but who knows how successful they will be. I will definitely observe this further and hope for the best. I am just really ashamed of our Federal Council who boasted about this being a success in the worst time possible. But maybe the timing is a good thing, otherwise everyone would have probably ignored the issue.

It might console you to know that the fires happen every year, naturally.

Actually, it's lower than average, and is a necessity part of the life cycle for many jungle plants.

While natural wildfires do occur it's well-known and documented that these fires were set by farmers and miners to gain more land.

A couple of things: you were unaware that annual wildfires are normal in the Amazon until I told you, you were unaware this year has below average wildfires until I told you, you were unaware that wildfire is a necessary part of the jungle life cycle until I told you. Do you suppose that there is more about the situation you may be unaware of? Do you suppose that there is a reason that information was withheld from you?

You are the one who seem unaware that annual fires are usual in the Amazon, even though it's ILLEGAL by our constitution to do so.

You seem "unaware" this year has more fire than last years INSIDE THE FOREST, with the purpose to open even more illegal space for more agritulture, instead of fire on areas that were already ilegally deforested from last years.

And you seem "unaware" that wildfire IS NOT a necessary part of the jungle life cycle, at least not at amazonia, a forest that's not made to survive fires like the cerrado do. Instead, it's a really wet forest, with trees that lived for more than 100 years without suffering with fires and that are now being cutted/burned down, again, ILLEGALY.

The only reason this fires happen every year is because PEOPLE CHOOSE the driest season to open space for their ilegal business, first cutting down trees, then letting they dry and then burning it all down.

Don't just try to make us seem dumb when you can't even get your information right.

I was not aware that annual wildfires occur in the Amazon before you told me. The fires spiked this year , with an over 80% increase as opposed to last year. I wasn't unaware that wildfires help renew jungles. I don't know why you think I am unaware of all these things as I have never implied any such ignorance. You're making hefty assumptions that do not aid the conversation and I am not sure what you're trying to achieve by telling people they're unaware of things without any trace whether they really are or aren't.
