For being armor, the new costume sure doesn't look like armor much at all. It really does look like a bizarrely textured alien fabric. Which is a nice compromise, in that it gets to keep the sleek, streamlined look of Superman while being durable enough not to leave him naked after a pitched battle.
And I have to say it: the more I see of this new costume, the more I like it. It looks like Superman finally grew up and joined the 21st century. Nothing wrong with a tasteful updating, says I.

The suit seems to be a gasp at making Supe's suit look more than just a Blue bodysuit/Sock. Superman is Bulletproof/neigh-invulnerable so his suit shouldn't be too much, but then again he may just want to stay decent after a firefight.
