A “Lich” in general terms was a powerful Necromancer who managed to separate his soul from his body through a well-anticipated profane and dark ritual. When his body is reanimated by the ritual as an undead, his consciousness achieves physical immortality. enclosing his soul in a secretly protected “Phylactery.” (If said amulet is not destroyed, the “Lich” can be reborn countless times.)
Now within the “Darksiders 2” saga, a “Lich” is a native inhabitant of Purgatory where all souls arrive at the inevitable judgment of the Creator but some visitors manage to escape their destiny by choosing to wander through countless mausoleums of the kingdom of the dead where the “Liches” take control of the dispossessed through their Urn, using these captured spirits as their undead lackeys.
