basically its an ocean with lots of tiny islands covered in crystals and minerals
and the ones who live there learnt how to control the way the crystals are creating and forming the shapes of themselves
and created these stairs. no carving or anything, just chemistry.
the mushroom looking things are water plants covered in thick layer of sand, the holes in the plants are enterances to an underwater layer.*
their tops are like fountains that vaccum the ocean liquid from their roots and while the liquid is going through the plant's veins its gaining poison
which gives it the pink shade and this poison is to protect the plants from creatures that would like to eat it.**
the crystals grow on this poison and the kind of salt of these crystals begins to glow when in touch with the posion,
so the living creatures dont need any electricity for light

*it's like an elevator that just goes straight down into an underwater caves that are connected with tunnels, some larger caves have cities in them and are populated by creatures that use the crystals for light!
the underwater cities are mostly known for the resident's incredible chemistry knowledge and marketing the crystals and poison, that also can be turned into an antidote for beings that are not resistant to it
