Description
in her arms.one day you will sing it.
for ~iLISI
she is positively wonderful, and those are her amazing words and you should go and read everything else she's ever written, because it would most probably make you feel like you've just travelled out to the edge of space, met the red queen, drowned with lions in teacups and then fly away with the bird bones you reinvented in your arms after discovering these little secrets about the world.

My dear, you've done it again.
After some careful consideration, (one should never take these things too lightly) I've had to re-shuffle what I consider my favourite shots of yours, to put this at the top of the list. I've only been watching you a few months, and in that time, you have managed to overstep yourself multiple times. I think that's definitely a good sign- you're showing consistent improvement in your work.
I don't even know where to begin discussing the qualities of this piece. It's intensely, emotionally evocative. The contrast between the light of the sky, and the semi-silhouette darkness, of both the figure and the birds, creates a strong connection, from human to bird. The soft, yet bright, golden tone is dreamy, and peaceful, and makes me think of dreams and desires, and things we wish for. When this is added to the connection, it seems clear that here is a girl who wants to fly. Which is something beautiful, and very easy to relate with- everybody wants to be free, and to escape over the landscape, sometimes.
The name is extremely well chosen, if I may say so. It reinforces (or reinvents, if I may) the aforementioned connection, but also adds something else to the picture. Simple mention of birds in the title would have been adequate to help express that feeling, yet it would have been altogether too simple to use an obvious, possibly even clichΓ©d title. A title like "To Fly" or something equally mundane could easily have been used, and would have been a reasonable description, but you've gone beyond that. I can't help but notice that your title is particularly intelligent. It adds depth, and philosophy to the already aesthetically stunning picture. It forces us to consider the physical impossibility of human flight, how the bones of birds are different from our own, and that's what allows them to soar. The picture really helps us muse on these thoughts, given how soft and relaxing it feels.
All I can say about the pose is; "Wow." Such elegance, such pristine poise- it stuns me, completely. For a picture of someone from behind to show such resplendence is a sign of fantastic work- both modelling and photographing. A persons back is rarely considered beautiful, but no other word does justice, here. The arm stretched out, holding the parasol, is subtly reminiscent of a bird opening its wings. The way the picture seems to have been capturing in the middle of rising, from sitting to standing, brings to mind a scene of someone having an epiphany. They rise, drop everything, and walk with some unknown intent. If this were a still-shot from a film scene, I can visualise the figure walking away from the camera, and fading out in the light. I should note that the birds are rising also, creating another connection, and a self-reference.
(I like the "recurring themes"- they make the picture seem so much more like a story.)
The equal division of field and sky, and the low-angle position of the shot do something very interesting to the trees in the background, I think. The field seems so undefined, and because of this, incredibly vast. The trees probably are not far away, but yet I get the impression of an incredible distance. The field seems infinitely large, yet at the same time, the edge of it is visible. This definitely has something to do with the dream-scape quality of the picture, but I'm uncertain if it's the cause, or the effect.
I always think that, while it's a particularly risky manoeuvre for a photographer to break the rule of thirds, for certain pictures, doing so can yield absolutely fantastic results. This is definitely one of those pictures. The field and sky are given equal space, the model is sitting in the centre-square (admittedly to the left of it, but the point remains)- but there is still more activity on the left than there is on the right. It creates a slight off-balance look along the horizontal axis, which conflicts with the even balance of the vertical axis, and moves the focus just enough to create a halfway point between centre-focussing, and the rule, which is what makes for such stunning work. A wonderful "best of both worlds" scenario.
All I have left to say is... Nothing. I'm utterly in awe. I'm actually a little worried the picture might be too perfect. How do you intend to surpass something as high-quality as this? I'm getting tingles just thinking about it.
If you have any inclination to make a print of this available... well, I think I would almost definitely buy it. I'm in need of something to add colour to one empty wall of my bedroom, and this would be very hard to resist.
Again- just fantastic work. You are an absolute bastion of artistic skill.

I try to go into detail so other people don't have to. Also, because I like giving ridiculously long, in-depth critiques.
