The bell rang and the gates flew open with a high smash and the field left the starting gates. Madelynn felt how Nonsense went to the side by some reason, which she never usually done. She looked to her side and saw the horse next to them coming closer and before Madelynn could to anything, Nonsense rammed the horse with a enormous force. The two horses collided. Madelynn pulled the reins, trying to steer Nonsense away from the other horse, who by this point, was running on it’s knees, trying to keep balance and return to run correctly. Nonsense went in the other direction, now charging after the field. Madelynn had no time to look back and check it the horse and jockey they had collided with was okay. There were simply no time, it was a short track.
Nonsense worked her way up to the 3rd position as they had 300 meters left to go. Madelynn showed the black mare the whip and urged her forward. Nonsense responded and attacked. She worked her way past the leaders as she crossed the finish line with one length to spare. Madelynn pulled in the reins, trying to stop the mare. She collected herself and started trotting as she breathed fast and rapidly. They made it back to the front of the track where William meet up with them as the speaker started talking.
“Due to number 8th’s, Nonsense interfering with the course and number 9, Amandaa-” Madelynn dropped her jaw and looked down at William, who look up at the commentators booth with a serious expression “- she drops from first place to 8th place!”
“They can’t do that!” shouted Madelynn in the stable, upset as she was. “We did no wrong! We didn’t interfere with the course! And that horse managed to take the 4th place!” She whipped the wall with her whip as she cursed. William tried to calm her as he examined Nonsense. Looking for if she was injured.
“Madelynn-”
“Why?! Why did she have to run to the side!”
“Madelynn-”
“I can’t believe this!”
“Madelynn!” shouted William, now angry at his jockey. She looked at him with a angry expression.
“Go to the trailer. And calm yourself down.” He pointed her out of the stable and she left while she whipped the walls as she passed them by.

Madelynn patted Nonsense as they trotted their way back to the winner circle to receive the audience cheers. Nonsense had lost both of her two resent races, first the Sprint Trophy and then the October Sprint Stakes, but now she was back and had won the Queen’s Mile, even if she had did so with only a nose to spare. Nonsense trotted relaxed when a horse came out of nowhere and passed them by in a furious pace. Nonsense threw herself to the side to avoid the other horse. She landed hard on the track with her hoofs. She jumped away again, and again, and again, that was when Madelynn noticed that something wasn’t right. She tried to collect the mare and make her stop, but she continued to jump with one leg dangling in mid-air. Her eyes rolled as she shrieked.
“She has a bone fracture”, the vet showed William the x-ray of Nonsense’s left front leg. “As you can see she has loose pieces of bone chips in her leg.” They vet pointed at the tiny bones. "This shows that she has had a fracture in her leg since before. It was about to heal when this happened today. Do you know where she might have got it?" William was blank in his expression and he sighed. "She must have got it from when she collided a couple of races ago..." He looked at the vet.
“What do you recommend? Is it treatable?” he turned around to look at Nonsense in her stall.
“It is treatable.” said the vet.
“Do what you can,” said William as he left the stable to tell Madelynn the bad news.

One moth later

Nonsense, little sweet Nonsense
It will take 3 months for her to recuperate from her injury. Hopefully, she might return to the racetrack, but only time can tell if she ever enters it again.
This picture was tricky in many ways, the poses, the starting gates... I used a ref of my own for this picture and I think this turned out fairly good
