Description
BioThomas is a cheeky blue tank engine, that lives, and works on the Island of Sodor. He has six small wheels, a short stumpy funnel, and a short stumpy dome. Thomas works on his own branchline (The Ffarquhar Branchline), with his two faithful coaches, Annie and Clarabel.
Crew
Thomas' driver is named Bob.
Liveries/Livery
When Thomas first arrived on Sodor, he was painted Teal with White lining. He had the initials 'LBSC' painted on the side of his tanks, and the number 70 painted on the side of his coal bunker. Sometime afterwards, he was repainted Pink (However he didn't like it), so he was repainted (once again) Blue (or Cerulean as some might say) with red lining, and the number 1 painted on the side of his tanks. This blue livery became his current livery. During the second world war, he was painted war-time black.
Basis
Thomas is based on the LBSCR E2 0-6-0T Shunting tank engines, that worked on the London, Brighton and South Coastal Railway. They were built between 1913-1916, and they had a top speed of 48-96 kph (30-60 mph). The worked on Britain until the early 1960's when they were withdrawn and scrapped. Unlike other E2's, Thomas is shorter, has wheel splashers, and he has only 1 dip, whereas the E2's had 2 dips. (My theory) Thomas was an experimental design of the E2's. Because of the war, and to save money, Thomas was built shorter and different compared to other E2's
History
Thomas was built in 1915, and later that year, he was sent to Sodor to help with the war effort. It was unknown how Thomas was sent to Sodor, however it was believed that it was due to a war mix up. Instead of returning back to his railway (the LB&SCR), he was purchased by Sir Topham Hatt I (aka the Fat Director) for a nominal fee, after his driver and fireman married local girls and decided to stay. He was a station pilot at Vicarstown until 1924-1925, where after having an incident with the trucks, he was transferred to Wellsworth. Following an accident with the trucks in 1924-1925, James was rescued by Thomas, and because of this, Thomas was rewarded his own branch line (The Ffarquhar Branch line, which was formerly run by 4 Coffee Pot locomotives), and 2 faithful coaches, Annie and Clarabel (Who are Tan, 4-wheeled LBSCR Stroudley Coaches). After this, he had many adventures on his branch line including racing Bertie the bus. In the 1960's, Thomas crashed into a station master's house near the Ffarquhar/ Tidmouth Branch sheds, and his footplate was severely damaged (specifically the front buffer beam), instead of it being repaired, it was rebuilt and it became straight instead of curved. In the 1990's, he was invited to the National Railway Museum in York, England. In 2015, he became 100 years old, as well as the last surviving E2.
Some of this information can be considered non-cannon, so don't take it seriously (some of it was thought up by me)
